Job Title : Senior Technician, Corporate Accounting

12-month contract, based on Vancouver Island

Must hold a valid Canadian Work Visa

On behalf of our client, a large and complex public organization with a high-performing finance function, we are seeking an experienced Senior Technician to join the Corporate Accounting team on a contract basis. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional who thrives in a dynamic, multi-functional environment and enjoys working collaboratively to maintain the integrity of financial operations.

The Finance function oversees all aspects of corporate and investment accounting, reporting, valuations, budgeting, tax structuring and compliance, and financial performance measurement. Within this group, the Corporate Accounting branch ensures timely and accurate financial transaction processing and reporting. This includes:

  • Operational Support : Managing accounts payable and receivable, employee reimbursements, treasury functions, and tax filings.
  • Accounting & Reporting Oversight : Supporting multi-jurisdictional compliance, accounting research, internal financial policies, and quarterly reporting deliverables.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Corporate Accounting , the Senior Technician will be responsible for processing expenses, vendor payments, reconciliations, journal entries, and tax-related administrative support. The ideal candidate is highly organized, has strong accounting acumen, and is comfortable working in a deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Process vendor invoices and employee reimbursements; issue cheques or electronic payments; confirm receipt of services and accurately code transactions.
  • Reconcile cash, payroll, and other payable accounts regularly.
  • Prepare and enter adjusting journal entries at month-end.
  • Maintain and document standard operating procedures.
  • Generate and analyze reports in support of provincial sales tax (PST) filings.
  • Prepare and confirm tax payments and related reports.
  • Support quarterly installment calculations and identify non-resident withholdings.
  • Communicate with tax authorities to resolve outstanding items.
  • Gather documentation for tax filings, manage document flow and mail, book meetings, and coordinate signature requests.
  • Act as a backup for other Senior Technicians as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounts payable or a similar accounting function
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong accounting foundation and excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent time management, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with high accuracy in a deadline-driven environment
  • Analytical thinker with sound judgment and a client-focused mindset
  • Self-motivated and committed to continuous improvement
  • Familiarity with financial reporting standards
  • Previous experience in complex or decentralized organizations, especially in the financial services industry
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV or similar ERP systems
  • Exposure to corporate income tax and indirect tax filing processes
