The open-pit gold mine is a joint venture between IAMGOLD and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. Ltd. and is operated by IAMGOLD. We are located near Gogama, Ontario, with access to stable infrastructure and strong connections with our local communities.

Mobile Maintenance Planning & Reliability Superintendent

The Planning & Reliability Mobile Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for leading the maintenance planning, scheduling, and reliability initiatives to optimize equipment performance, reduce downtime, and improve overall efficiency on the mobile fleet. This role ensures the development and implementation of best-in-class maintenance strategies, condition monitoring programs, and proactive reliability improvements.

Key Responsibilities

Area 1:

Maintenance planning & scheduling.

  • Manage team headcount and organizational structure with defined roles and responsibilities
  • Develop and oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs for the mobile fleet assets.
  • Lead a team of planners to ensure work orders, spare parts, and labor resources are efficiently scheduled and executed.
  • Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to prioritize maintenance activities while minimizing production disruptions.
  • Work closely with Supply Chain for material management including kitting and delivery.
  • Utilize CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) to track work orders, asset health, and backlog management. Implement all assets with proper strategies, hierarchy, BOMs and criticality.
  • Build robust shut down planning, including production activities, for large packages of work related to the wet and dry side of the process plant including detailed Gantt charts, resource requirements and contractor management.
  • Develop a three-year maintenance program.

Area 2:

Reliability performance and asset management.

  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of the company’s asset reliability program.
  • Implement condition-based monitoring (CBM) programs to extend component life and reduce operating costs.
  • Analyze failure modes and root causes to drive continuous improvement initiatives and reduce downtime.
  • Establish and maintain a robust asset lifecycle management strategy to optimize asset utilization and extend equipment life.
  • Develop an asset integrity program.
  • Work with OEMs and vendors to integrate best-in-class reliability into mobile maintenance.

Area 3:

Equipment performance & optimization.

  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for maintenance effectiveness, including MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) and MTTR (Mean Time to Repair) as well as compliance to plan for all work areas to be communicated to the execution teams.
  • Identify and remove bottlenecks affecting equipment availability and reliability.
  • Ensure critical spare parts availability and optimize inventory management to balance cost and operational needs.

Area 4:

Safety, compliance and continuous improvement.

  • Champion a strong safety culture by ensuring all maintenance activities comply with site safety policies and regulations.
  • Lead reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) initiatives to drive continuous improvement in plant performance.
  • Conduct regular audits on maintenance practices to ensure adherence to best practices and industry standards.
  • Foster cross-departmental collaboration between maintenance, operations, and engineering teams to improve asset performance.

Safety & Sustainability Expectations

Maintain a cooperative interest in the health and safety of yourself, your fellow workers and local communities. Wear PPEs at all times if in production environments. Be alert and observe, correct and report unsafe conditions. Follow operating procedures and comply with all regulatory requirements. Ensure that work areas are in compliance with all of Iamgold’s Health and Safety policies and the Occupational Health and Safety Acts in the applicable jurisdiction. Intervene as necessary, to ensure the safety of others in the workplace. Provide safety leadership by always setting a good example.

Scope of Responsibility & Complexity

  • Work is advanced in its complexity involving new methodologies or approaches, requiring interpretation and making recommendations. Problem resolution involves a high degree of independent judgment. Applies theoretical concepts or original approaches to complete projects or assignments.
  • Work is performed under limited direction. Ensures projects in the unit or area are completed on-time, on-budget, and to required standards. Initiates, implements, evaluates and modifies own projects and plans in response to needs. Supervises and directs the work of a technical or professional work unit.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements and Nice To Haves

minimum qualifications, formal education, certifications or equivalents

  • University degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Reliability Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Registered Engineer (PEO) or capacity to register is considered an asset.

Work experience - Nature & Length

  • Ten (10) years’ related working experience in maintenance/asset management.
  • Minimum 10+ years of maintenance experience in a gold milling, mineral processing, or heavy industrial plant.
  • At least 5 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Strong background in surface mining equipment of the 230t class size.
  • Proficiency in CMMS software (Oracle, SAP, Pronto, or equivalent) for maintenance planning and scheduling.
  • Experience with condition monitoring technologies.
  • Knowledge of ISO 55000 Asset Management principles and RCM methodologies.
