We need a Manager in our Finance department leading the ceded reinsurance team in order to deliver excellence in end-to-end accounting processes; timely and accurate deliverables for regulatory Financial Reporting, and to ensure appropriate application of IFRS and OSFI guidelines. We will need you to take responsibility for leading the ceded reinsurance team and ensure accurate accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting and application of accounting policy.

What You’ll Do
- Successfully lead the ceded reinsurance accounting team and provide the necessary training and support to team members;
- Ensure timely and accurate reinsurance accounting for ceded reinsurance transactions of Aviva Canada;
- Lead the preparation of reinsurance schedules for P&C-1 reporting and provide these to the Reporting team at Aviva for each insurance entity;
- Lead projects on special technical accounting issues relating to IFRS standards as needed (i.e. unlicensed reinsurers, collateral requirements, internal/external reinsurance, multi-year reinsurance, structured solutions);
- Lead and/or support the implementation and development of accounting policy memorandums under IFRS and Solvency II working with the Reporting team at Aviva;
- Review Aviva Group Reporting Instructions and establish, quarterly, half-year and year-end closing procedures;
- Prepare and coordinate the year-end reporting timetable, meetings and deliverable task list;
- Act as key liaison to the reporting to external audit function, which includes preparing and acquiring schedules, completing substantive procedures and ensuring requested deliverables from reinsurance are submitted by the agreed timelines;
- Lead the updating and executing the Financial Reporting Control Framework controls and sign-offs for reinsurance;
- Set priorities and establish outstanding practices within the Reinsurance accounting team;
- Work with other departments to provide coordinated solutions to the business and other areas of Finance;
- Collaborate with business partners to gather requirements and understand reporting needs;
- Build and improve management reports by effectively applying system capabilities and minimizing run time;
- Ensure internal controls and quality measures are in place to maintain accounting quality;
- Consistently and accurately provide MI reports to collaborators in the business and finance departments;
- Ensure Finance MI initiatives are delivered on time as related to reinsurance;
- Maintain a seamless accounting process to meet the customer needs in finance management information;
- Implement governance and control on new process creation;
- Provide change leadership and functional guidance to streamline processes for the production of reporting schedules through systems automation; and
- Ad hoc project support as required.
What You’ll Bring
- Accounting/Finance related University Degree;
- CPA designation with audit firm experience;
- Proven IFRS technical expertise; IFRS 17 experience preferred
- Experience with Property and Casualty insurance operations, accounting and regulatory reporting;
- Strong technical and analytical skills;
- Highly developed communication (written & verbal) and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to translate complex analysis and recommendations into simple communication;
- Strong Excel capabilities; and
- Strong leadership skills.
