Student Connect Advising Assistant - Term-Certain
Position Summary
Are you looking for a permanent full-time position at Red Deer Polytechnic? Do you have customer service experience with the ability to connect with students? We invite you to join our team as the Student Connect Advising Assistant.
The Student Connect Advising Assistant serves as the first point of contact for Red Deer Polytechnic students accessing services at the Student Connect Centre. The incumbent front line support to assist students in making informed decisions concerning their educational goals. This position is part of a collaborative team that builds and improves the processes that attract learners to Red Deer Polytechnic supporting the academic journey from prospect to graduate.
The Student Connect Advising Assistant connects students to the appropriate resources within the Student Connect Centre, and across campus. The Assistant identifies and analyzes the needs of Red Deer Polytechnic learners to design relevant communication, tools, supports and services to support student success, retention, and belonging.
This position plays a critical role in supporting the administration of the Student Connect Centre including booking management, and call centre coverage.
Position Responsibilities

Acts as first point of contact for Student Connect Centre

Provide information to students in a holistic manner, referring to Advisors as applicable
-
Assist students in the navigation of academic processes and procedures such as registration add/drops, course withdrawals, funding, etc.

Assist in the development of educational plans

Screen students and refer them to the appropriate type of funding for their unique situation, guide through funding application process
-
Maintain and develop knowledge/resources related to current program admission criteria, transfer requirements and program completion pathways

Respond to phone, email, and in-person inquiries providing general information, referring inquiries to the appropriate sources using a broad knowledge of the institution’s priorities, procedures, protocols, and personnel

Support the management of the centres general inboxes and contact forms

Coordinate the operation of the centres online booking and communication systems
-
Provide day-to-day scheduling assistance to screen and prioritize advisor in-person, online, or phone bookings with drop-in requirements

Support student recruitment and retention efforts including tours, communication, and special events
Required Qualifications
-
Two (2) years of post-secondary training, completion of a community college certificate including trades apprenticeships or equivalent in Business Administration, Administrative Professional, Marketing

One to two years’ experience in a similar role
-
Superior communication skills (both written and verbal)
-
Excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills
-
Must be a team player and also able to work independently
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience using Blackboard, Banner, Microsoft Office products
-
Student advising experience is an asset
-
Four (4) year undergraduate degree, or three (3) year undergraduate degree plus one full additional year of university in a related program representing four years of study or equivalent

An additional 15% of the hourly rate in lieu of vacation, statutory
holidays and benefits.
