About the role
1. Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Claims, the incumbent is responsible for adjusting claims arising out of the
Comprehensive General Liability program.
2. Unit Mandate
The Claims Unit handles all insurance claims.
3. Job Activities/Tasks
· Processes claims in a timely, professional and efficient manner including analyzing, investigating and
payment on files
· Provides instructions to external defence counsel with respect to claims in litigation
· Participates in policy coverage and liability discussions
· Investigates and evaluates incidents that may lead to claims and provides settlement
recommendations
· Performs field adjusting as required
· Responds to Subscriber inquiries on coverage and policy provisions with respect to status of claims or
any other inquires
· Establishes good working relationships with Subscribers to ensure excellent customer service and
efficient management of claims
· Independently manage administrative tasks on assigned claim files, including claim initiation, closure,
payment processing, and report preparation. Additionally, support the Manager, Claims in executing
these functions for internal stakeholders, Subscribers, and reinsurers
· Other duties as assigned
3. Educational Requirements
· Post secondary diploma in a related discipline
· Working towards Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation with claims specific courses
4. Knowledge, Skills & Experience
· 2-5 years experience in claims adjusting, experience in electricity distribution industry an asset
· Demonstrated desire to develop a career in claims adjusting
· Knowledge of contract & tort law (claims acts, regulations & policies; etc.)
· Superior customer service and problem solving skills
· Strong verbal and written communication skills
· Motivated, high energy team player
· Strong organizational and problem solving skills
· Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite)
5. Working Conditions
· Professional office environment
· Irregular business hours may apply
· Minimal travel within Ontario required
