Wage Schedule: $28.340 - $29.620 per hour

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Surgical Suite Perioperative Support is an integral member of the Surgical Program and Multidisciplinary team, working in close collaboration with other team members in providing support for the Surgical Suite. Duties to include, but not limited to: transporting of patients; assisting with the positioning and lifting of patients as required; maintaining equipment and reporting need for repairs; transporting, setting up and cleaning of equipment as required; transporting specimens; performing errands to departments; assisting with ordering, receiving and stocking of supplies; replenishing of carts and rooms with supplies; cleaning of Surgical Suite (as per recommended guidelines); emptying/transporting of garbage and linen; changing of sharps containers; defrosting and cleaning of refrigerators; cleaning of microwaves; cleaning of flash autoclaves; preparation of soiled case carts for transportation to SPD in a timely manner; and other duties and tasks as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Successful completion of the CSAO or MDRAO course required;
-
Current CPR certificate;
-
Ability to read and write English to the level required for the job;
-
Proven effective communication, organizational and interpersonal skills;
-
Demonstrated sound knowledge of fundamentals of universal precautions relating to supplies and specimens;
-
Must be able to work as a member of the surgical team with minimal supervision;
-
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships;
-
Physically capable of performing duties including: being able to walk extensively, climb stairs on a regular basis and lift/transfer/transport patients by stretcher, bed and/or wheelchair; other physical activities include lifting, bending, and reaching to accomplish tasks;
-
Must be flexible and able to adapt easily to new situations including life threating situations;
-
Must be able to work all shifts and weekends;
-
Surgical Suite experience as an SA, preferred;
-
Must have a satisfactory performance record;
-

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and C.U.P.E Local 6364.
Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.
