Job Title: Graduate Engineer-in-Training (EIT) – Renewable Energy

Location: Calgary or Halifax, Canada

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Green Cat Renewables Canada Corporation is a dynamic engineering consultancy delivering specialist development support, including engineering, environmental, and regulatory permitting support services, to renewable generation and energy storage projects across Canada. The company has offices in Calgary and Halifax and comprises of a multidisciplinary team, consisting of 25 engineers, specialist consultants, project managers and technical specialists. Green Cat Renewables provide a complete, in-house consultancy and project management service to deliver renewable energy generation concepts through the entire project life cycle, from initial feasibility to commercial operation.

The Opportunity

To support our ongoing growth in Canada, Green Cat Renewables is seeking a Graduate Engineer-In-Training (EIT) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest and passion for the development of renewable and sustainable energy.

The Role Includes:

Contributing to the completion of technical assessments and reporting required by varying regulatory bodies for renewable energy and energy storage projects; including:

  • Noise Impact Assessment
  • Shadow Flicker Assessment
  • Solar Glare Hazard Analysis
  • Visual Impact Assessment and Production of Visualizations

Supporting the completion of front-end engineering and design assessments for renewable energy and energy storage projects; including:

  • Solar and Wind Resource Assessment
  • Layout Design and Optimization
  • Site Selection
  • Feasibility Assessment
  • GIS Mapping

Assisting in the preparation of regulatory permitting applications across multiple jurisdictions across Canada; including, Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

Undertaking field visits during the development of projects to support technical assessments

Supporting the wider Green Cat team in business development activities including market research (permitting, interconnections, Federal and Provincial funding and programs), attendance at conferences and preparation of tenders and proposals.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Must have a minimum of undergraduate degree in Engineering and be eligible for accreditation with APEGA, or other provincial equivalent engineering association.

  • Will have familiarity with the basic principals of renewable energy development. A strong preference will be given to candidates with experience or exposure to the renewable or sustainable energy sectors.

  • Will have a basic familiarity with provincial and federal regulatory bodies and requirements for permitting renewable energy projects.

  • Will possess excellent English language communication skills (professional level minimum) required as well as excellent computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Would have experience using QGIS and/or AutoCAD.

  • Must be comfortable in a client facing role. Client relationships are of great importance to our business.

  • Will have a proactive, adaptable mind-set with a willingness to work independently or as part of a team.

  • Has a willingness to undertake travel and occasional overnight stays.

  • Must have a valid Canadian Driver’s License

  • Must be legally able to reside and work in Canada.
