Position Summary
This position is responsible to provide first point-of-contact to the public in collecting and processing a variety of customer payments including property tax, utilities, parking tickets & permits and transit passes using various financial systems.
The Cashier provides superior customer service by responding to inquiries, complaints and investigating discrepancies.
Responsibilities also include the processing and data entry of payments, balancing cash and preparing deposits, reconciling revenue and updating spreadsheets for upload into financial management system.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Process a variety of customer payments received in person, by mail, drop box, or over the phone
Respond to public and internal inquiries, complaints and investigating discrepancies
Input data, reconcile payments and prepare bank deposits
Process photo identification cards for transit passes, contract workers and staff
Perform general office duties such as opening mail, filing, and faxing
Update and reconcile various revenue sources for processing in the financial management
system
Maintain petty cash for City Hall
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Competencies
High School (Grade 12) diploma or equivalent plus a 1 year certificate in office administration or equivalent
One (1) year experience handling high volume of financial transactions
Experience in a municipal/public sector setting is an asset
Must demonstrate corporate values of Belonging, Collaboration, Accountability, and Innovation
Skills, Abilities, Work Demands
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong customer service skills, including the ability to establish good working relationships with a variety of internal and external clients and the public
Ability to work effectively, independently and as a team member
Intermediate skills in MS Office (MS Excel will be tested at Intermediate level)
Organizational and time management skills with a capacity to learn
Demonstrate integrity; adhere to professional standards, regulations and corporate policies and procedures (e.g. Code of Conduct)
Typing speed of 45 wpm
Required to obtain and maintain satisfactory criminal record check.
