Job Description (E)
POSITION PURPOSE
Reporting to the Manager, Production and Support Services, is responsible for assisting in all aspects of food preparation, service, delivery, collection and clean-up in accordance with Ministry of Health Long Term Care (LTC) Standards, Health Protection & Promotions Act, The Occupational Health & Safety Act and Departmental Policy.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists in the preparation of large quantities of food to meet the production requirements of the facility, its related functions and outreach programs.

Sets tables in dining area for residents meals.

Delivers trays to serving areas for the service of meals.

Portions and serves food to residents in dining rooms.

Collects all soiled dishes, utensils and trays and returns to clean-up area.

Responds to inquiries and resolves concerns, as appropriate, from the residents.

Assists in on the job “buddy training system” of other employees, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Successful completion of two years of Secondary School or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must hold a Food Service Worker Certificate or be enrolled in a Food Service Worker training program offered by an established College and able to obtain the Certificate within three years of appointment.
- Completion of an approved Food Safety Course.
- As a condition of employment, candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC), tuberculosis screening and proof of immunization in accordance with the Long-Term Care Homes Act (O.Reg.79/10).
- Minimum one (1) year's experience in the dietary department of a health care facility.
- Knowledge of the Health Protection & Promotions Act, the Canadian Food Sanitation Code and Ministry of Health and Long Term Care standards related to food and nutrition services.
- Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer focus, communication, collaboration and personal ownership.
- Ability to work effectively independently or as a part of a team.
- Ability to read, write and follow written and verbal instructions in English.
- Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs and to withstand long periods of walking, standing and frequent bending and twisting.
- Ability to operate job related tools and equipment used in the Department.
- Ability to steer and manipulate large and small food wagons and carts through resident areas and congested areas.
- Ability to travel to off site locations in a timely and efficient manner, as required.
- Ability to work outside regular business hours, as required, and to work a variety of shifts.
