Controller
About the role
Horizon Recruitment Inc. is partnering with a well-established, growth-driven organization embarking on an ambitious expansion journey. As part of this strategy, a newly formed business unit is set to scale.
This is more than a traditional Controller position; it’s a launchpad for a forward-thinking CPA ready to take on a mandate with direct executive exposure and high strategic impact. You’ll have the autonomy to build and shape the finance function for this new division, implementing best practices while partnering closely with operations to drive results.
Responsibilities:
- Lead all financial reporting, month-end close, and treasury activities for the new business unit, under ASPE.
- Build, mentor, and develop a collaborative, high-performing accounting team.
- Own budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning, aligning targets with growth objectives.
- Analyze financial results, prepare MD&A, and deliver insights to senior leadership and the Board.
- Oversee cash flow, capital allocation, and manage insurance and contractual agreements.
- Ensure accurate, timely tax compliance across GST/HST, PST, and corporate income taxes.
- Develop and maintain cash flow models and robust internal controls to safeguard assets.
- Act as primary liaison for external auditors, tax advisors, and corporate finance.
- Drive system conversions and process improvements to scale operations efficiently.
- Support M&A activity and integration of acquired businesses, including site visits and due diligence.
Requirements:
- CPA designation required.
- Approximately 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, ideally with multi-entity or multi-location operations.
- Strong technical foundation in ASPE, Canadian tax compliance, and financial reporting.
- Hands-on leader eager to solve problems, improve processes, and mentor teams.
- Deep business acumen and ability to translate financial data into actionable strategy.
- Advanced Excel skills; Power BI and systems conversion experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of Canadian payroll, labor standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience with retail, construction, or distribution environments is an asset.
- Willingness to travel to regional operations and acquisition targets.
- Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills.
**Only candidates eligible to work in Canada will be considered**
