About the role

Job Summary

We are currently hiring for a Relief Full Time Recreation Therapist to join our Rehabilitation team at Surrey Memorial Hospital located in Surrey, B.C. This position is available until approximately November 2025 or until the return of the incumbent.

Detailed Overview The Recreation Therapist assesses, plans, implements and monitors Recreation Therapy services which are designated to meet the individual needs and abilities of patients in order to maintain and improve their level of social and leisure function as they transition from the hospital setting to their home community. Participates in interprofessional team and family conferences and collaborates with other professionals.

Responsibilities 01. Provides input into the development of recreation programs in the assigned areas. Implements and evaluates recreation therapy programs and determines program modification as necessary. Promotes the patient/client's ability to access and participate in community resources that will help their transition from a hospital to home community setting. 02. Conducts the assessment of each patient/client's social and leisure abilities and, in cooperation with other members of the interprofessional team, plans, implements and evaluates patient/client plans of care. Educates patients/clients and families in aspects of recreation therapy treatment. 03. Participates in interprofessional team conferences and family conferences as necessary. 04. Collaborates with other team members regarding program related issues. 05. Provides input into the performance evaluation of clinical support staff. 06. Assists with the implementation of staff education programs relating to recreation therapy and rehabilitation services. 07. Acts as a resource person to staff regarding patient/client's therapeutic recreation needs. 08. Prepares food items with patients/clients; portions out and serves food and beverages and assists patients/clients with eating. 09. Makes recommendations regarding the purchase, general maintenance and repair of equipment and supplies. 10. Maintains patient/client records, clinical outcome measures and statistical data in accordance with department, facility and professional standards. 11. Participates in interprofessional, departmental and professional development to ensure awareness of current developments of evidence-based therapeutic recreation practice. 12. Provides instruction, feedback and supervision to students as required. 13. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Therapy. One (1) year of experience in Therapeutic Recreation, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Eligible for membership with the BC Therapeutic Recreation Association (BCTRA).

Successful completion of Foodsafe Course Level 1.

Valid BC Driver's License and access to personal vehicle for work-related purposes.
