About the role

Job Summary:

The Communications Specialist is responsible for curating and developing content for AMSSA’s digital and social media channels and executes social media campaigns to support AMSSA’s goals. The Communications Specialist will support the AMSSA team with branding reviews, website updates, and graphic design for online shareables, newsletters, resources and materials.

Reports to:

Communications Manager and overall to the Senior Director of Operations and Communications

Classification:

Full-Time Contract; July 14 - March 31, 2026 (subject to extension based on funding)

Hours & Location:

35 hours per week - work from AMSSA's office located at Metrotower II, Burnaby BC with the opportunity to work from home up to 2 days a week

Salary & Benefits:

$36.94 / hour with a comprehensive benefits package including:

  • pro-rated 20 days of vacation and 12 days of sick leave;
  • 1 day paid off for religious and cultural observance;
  • extended health benefits after 3 months of employment; and
  • other longer-term employment benefits including RRSP and staff recognition.

DUTIES

  • Develops, supports, and implements effective communications strategies for AMSSA’s digital and social media channels that tell stories, build engagement and awareness about settlement and integration, AMSSA and its programs
  • Regularly review and audit AMSSA’s web environments and performance, monitor potential issues and challenges, recommend and implement necessary improvements
  • Maintains a communications content and editorial calendar
  • Creates and schedules social media posts to promote engagement and AMSSA’s resources
  • Reviews AMSSA communications, e-mails, publications, presentations and other online materials to ensure branding consistency, funding acknowledgements and requirements
  • Supports the review, measurement and revisions to AMSSA’s engagement strategies, branding guidelines, internal processes, social media guidelines and other applicable documents to ensure effective communications
  • Creates graphics and designs including social media images, templates, newsletters and other publications for online and print
  • Films and edits short form videos for AMSSA’s social media channels
  • Supports with evaluation of AMSSA communications including reporting on both general and specific programming activities including newsletters, websites and social media metrics
  • Data entry and database management including maintaining, updating and adding AMSSA contact lists for newsletters and event invitation mail outs
  • Maintains and organizes a communications asset library
  • Supports the AMSSA programs team in activities, resources, and deliverables
  • Supports event planning, logistics, and photo/video taking for in-person, online and hybrid events as needed
  • Supports in fund development through proposal writing to further AMSSA’s organizational and programmatic goals as required

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2 or more years’ experience in communications, brand management and/or marketing
  • Experience in the not-for-profit, human services, or public sector is preferred but not required
  • Proven experience developing and implementing communications strategies
  • Ability to build engagement and impact through social media and/or digital channels
  • Adaptive and responsive in a dynamic work environment with shifting priorities and short deadlines
  • Be a brand champion and have the ability to communicate AMSSA’s brand to the internal team and external partners
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills that tell stories that reach specific audiences
  • Experience creating publications, multimedia and shareable graphics with high proficiency with Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, professional attitude, and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work independently, while being a collaborative and communicative team member
  • Proficient with social media platforms: LinkedIn, Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube and Bluesky as well as social media management solutions such as SproutSocial
  • Proficient with variety of software applications: MS Office 365, SharePoint, Mailchimp, and Zoom
  • Experience maintaining websites through WordPress
  • Experience using and maintaining the Thinkific e-learning platform is an asset
  • Experience coordinating, planning, and executing in-person and/or online events is an asset
  • Fluency in French is an asset
  • Post-secondary undergraduate degree or diploma in a relevant discipline is an asset
