The Opportunity
The Finance Department provides financial leadership, advice and support to the Corporation and assists with the delivery of Council’s Strategic plan through its four essential services: accounting services, corporate finance, procurement and revenue management. The department's main deliverables include the audited financial statements, coordinating the annual business plan and budget, treasury and debt management, procurement administration and support, property tax revenue management, and water and wastewater revenue management.
Reporting to the Supervisor of Water and Wastewater Billing, the Revenue Assistant (Student) is responsible for supporting the delivery of departmental services and programs, as well as assisting the Accounting and Revenue Branch with special projects. Specifically, this position distributes incoming mail, performs data entry functions, inputs customer account adjustments and master file changes, and mails arrears notices and registered letters. Additionally, this position scans and saves documents, files documents, and assists with customer service inquiries. Overall, this position plays an integral role in the efficient delivery of revenue services to residents and Staff of the City of Barrie.

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)

Currently enrolled in or is a student in a recognized College or University*

Minimum of 16 years of age or turning 16 by the end of the calendar year and must have attended one of the academic establishments listed above the year in which they are applying for employment and/or returning the following year
Experience
- Three (3) months experience performing duties related to the above mentioned major responsibilities
Knowledge/Skill/Ability
- General knowledge of principles related to office administration
- Demonstrated ability to:
- maintain a high standard of public relations at all times
- work collaboratively in a group setting to achieve a desired objective, goal and/or outcome
- interact effectively and courteously with all levels of Staff and contacts in a community/client service environment
- Basic attention to detail, administrative, interpersonal, organizational, problem solving, time management, oral communication, and written communication skills
- Basic computer literacy utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word)

Other Important Information
Work Term: September - December, 2025
Location: City Hall, 70 Collier Street, Barrie, Ontario
Hours: The normal hours of work are 35 hours per week in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
Wage: $17.52 to $23.82 per hour
