About the role

Make a Meaningful Impact in the Lives of Albertans

At the Alberta Cancer Foundation, we exist to create more hope and more moments for Albertans facing cancer, no matter where they live or the type of cancer they’re facing. But we can’t do it alone. It is the collective actions of our team –alongside our volunteers, partners and donors –that are pivotal to ensuring every Albertan facing cancer has the support they need and the treatment they deserve, now and into the future.

Opportunity

The Manager, Strategic Communications plays a key role in advancing the goals of the Philanthropy and Stewardship teams by supporting fundraising efforts and bringing donor recognition to life across all levels. This position oversees the development of compelling donor-facing materials — including stewardship reports, proposals, and cases for support.

In addition, the Manager leads the creation of flagship communications such as the Foundation’s semiannual Leap magazine and supports the production of our annual Report to Our Community. Working closely with the Stewardship team, this role will identify and elevate opportunities to tell powerful donor impact stories that align with and enhance the Foundation’s overall communications strategy. With a strong marketing lens, the Manager will collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to ensure donor communications are strategically aligned, brand-consistent, and audience-focused. As a team leader, this role also supports the broader organizational voice — including working with Human Resources to align internal messaging and partnering with the Events team to deliver impactful experiences for major donor and stewardship events.

How You'll Contribute

Strategic Donor Stewardship

  • Develop and lead communication strategies, in collaboration with the Stewardship team to enhance donor stewardship and engagement at all levels, driving meaningful connections to our impact story.
  • Oversee the team responsible for prioritizing and developing high-impact stewardship materials, cases for support, and stewardship reports to effectively communicate the outcomes and value of donor contributions.
  • Partner with the events team on all major donor and stewardship events, crafting strategic communications and storytelling materials.

Publication Project Leadership

  • Be a lead strategist, editor and project manager for Leap magazine, working collaboratively with external agencies, ensuring high-quality content that aligns with organizational goals.
  • Support the Stewardship team in developing the annual Report to Our Donors, showcasing key achievements and donor impact.
  • Support the multi-channel distribution strategies for Leap and Report to Our Donors through print, mail and digital platforms, while identifying opportunities to enhance the content delivery through design, online presence and reach.

Content Management and Internal Communication Support

  • Develop key messages and supporting content to ensure consistency, quality, and alignment with the brand voice.
  • Oversee the management and optimization of the story database, ensuring it is updated, organized, and accessible for use across teams.
  • Oversee internal communications initiatives to support HR priorities, including change management, updates, and organizational messaging.

What You'll Bring to the Team

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a communications role, preferably within a nonprofit or healthcare environment.

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience managing direct reports and leading a team.

  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Ability to bring a marketing lens forward to support projects and teams.

  • Experience developing communications plans.

  • Familiarity with donor stewardship practices, impact reporting, and internal communications is an asset.

  • Proficiency in maintaining and organizing content databases.

  • Clear Background Check.
