Software Test Engineer Role
Who We Are
Planar Motor is redefining motion through precision planar magnetic levitation. Our cutting-edge, industry-leading systems enable ultra-smooth, multi-degree-of-freedom movement for industries ranging from advanced manufacturing to biomedical automation. We are a team of forward thinkers, engineers, and innovators working at the frontier of control and motion systems.
What Will You Do?
At Planar Motor, we're building the future of intelligent motion. Our maglev robotic systems are designed for high precision and operate with complex coordination. To ensure they perform reliably, we are seeking a skilled Software Testing Engineer to join our team.
In this role, you will focus on validating the embedded software that powers our robotic platforms. You will be responsible for designing and executing thorough test plans to ensure correctness, stability, and performance. Working closely with our software team, you will help identify issues early, improve reliability, and confirm that our systems behave as expected under real-world conditions.
Typical Responsibilities Include
- Design, implement, and run functional, integration, and system-level tests for embedded and application software
- Develop automated test frameworks and scripts for continuous validation
- Investigate software issues and provide actionable reports to developers
- Build and manage test setups including hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) configurations
- Work closely with engineers across teams to ensure robust and reliable software releases
- Contribute to test planning, coverage analysis, and quality standards
Who Are We Looking For?
We're looking for someone who is methodical, curious, and committed to building reliable systems. You should have a strong foundation in software testing, particularly in embedded or real-time environments, and be comfortable working closely with engineers from multiple disciplines.
You take pride in uncovering edge cases and subtle bugs that others might miss. You enjoy designing rigorous test cases, automating repetitive validation tasks, and thinking critically about system behavior. Whether you're setting up a hardware-in-the-loop test bench or scripting automated tests to catch regressions, you're someone who believes that good testing is just as important as good code.
Qualifications
- Experience testing embedded systems or real-time applications
- Solid understanding of C/C++ and the behavior of real-time systems
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
- Excellent communication skills, especially when reporting issues
- Bachelors, Masters, or Doctoral degrees in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Software Engineering, Engineering Physics, or equivalent, with a proven record of excellence in engineering
Desirable Skills
- Experience working with hardware-in-the-loop testing or robotics system
- Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or Bash for test automation
- Familiarity with automated test pipelines
