Term and Casual Direct Support Worker
2 fixed term positions- Monday to Friday -9:30 am - 2:00 pm
Com-Span Inc. supports adults living intellectual disabilities to participate in the community. Com-Span currently has opening for casual Individualized Support Worker to work days Monday to Friday the program operates from 8:00 - 4:00.
Primary Responsibilities:
To assist the individual in their physical, social, emotional and daily life skills development.
To assist participants with all aspects of their individual care, including physical, social, emotional, educational, recreational, and vocational development in a manner that promotes their dignity and independence,
To support the communication abilities of the participants, whether with speech or with augmented methods.
To facilitate in any way possible by assisting the individual in order to achieve their goal.
To assist and facilitate the individual with community-based activities, such as swimming, bowling, going for coffee, shopping, etc.
Support the individual in social situations to promote confidence and develop appropriate social skills.
To ensure the client’s safety and well-being are maintained at all times.
Duties and responsibilities of this position include:
The Support Worker is responsible for the well-being of the participants, under the direction of the Coordinators. A key component of the job is to assist participants in their physical, social, emotional and daily life skills development.
To assist participants with all aspects of their individual care, including physical, social, emotional, educational, recreational, and vocational development in a manner that pro motes their dignity and independence,
To provide, when needed, one-to-one support for the participant’s feeding, toileting and dressing and personal hygiene,
To deliver the activities in the participants’ individual plans, respectful of the participants’ choices and interests,
To support the communication abilities of the participants, whether with speech or with augmented methods,
To ensure the client’(s) safety and well-being are maintained at all time, following the
hygienic procedures and health and safety procedures of Com-Span Inc.,
To follow the directions of the nurse regarding any health concerns that the participants may have.
To ensure that the rights and needs of the participant(s) remains the primary focus,
To follow through with specific instruction/requests made by supervisors on behalf of the particular participant.
To review and complete tasks as assigned on the daily schedule,
To assist participants in community-based activities, such as swimming, bowling, going for coffee, shopping, etc. to increases their independence and assists them to function appropriately in the community,
To complete daily logs of the participants’ activities, health and behavioral concerns, achievements and any significant incidents, as required and directed by Coordinators.
To keep the Coordinators informed of client progress, significant events and program concerns.
Experience supporting individuals with intellectual disability is an asset.
Starting wages: $16.94
Hours: 9:30 am - 2:00 pm-fixed term position
Job requirements:
Class 5 driver’s license
First Aid/CPR
Adult Abuse Registry Check
Job Type: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 3 months
Pay: $16.94 per hour
Schedule:
- 4 hour shift
- Day shift
- Monday to Friday
- No weekends
Education:
- Secondary School (preferred)
Experience:
- Support Worker: 1 year (preferred)
Licence/Certification:
- Manitoba Driver's License Class 5 (required)
