Job Description We are presently recruiting for a Quant Engineer to join the newly created Asset Management (AM) team within the Credit Investments (CI) department in Toronto. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the foundational design and implementation of next-generation asset management capabilities for CI’s private credit portfolio.
The Quant Engineer will play a key role, developing technology solutions featuring artificial intelligence to automate and enhance the rigour of our asset management processes. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in software development, data engineering, and a desire to push the frontier of technology in alternative asset management.
Team Description AM endeavors to develop a best-in-class asset management function to support CI’s growth for the next decade and beyond. The team will consist of credit experts and quantitative engineers collaboratively delivering tech-enabled solutions to drive alpha from operational efficiency, risk mitigation, and proprietary insights.
The team will handle ongoing issuer-level tasks such as performance monitoring, analyses of fundamental data trends, covenant tracking, cashflow and ledger forecasts, valuations, portfolio updates, and other critical asset management activities. By combining domain expertise with cutting-edge technology – including GenAI and machine learning – AM aims to develop systems and processes that are tailored to CI, highly scalable and generate accretive insights.
The Quant Engineer will work at the intersection of technology and private credit with an opportunity to develop both engineering and capital markets expertise within a large, global credit investment platform.
Accountabilities
- Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines to ingest, transform, and store structured and unstructured credit data from internal and external sources.
- Design and implement technology solutions to automate post-investment credit monitoring processes, such as financial modeling, covenant tracking, risk analytics, and reporting workflows.
- Collaborate with credit professionals to understand business needs, translate requirements into technical specifications, and build robust, user-friendly tools.
- Work in project-based teams to generate ideas, prototype, test, and refine new applications from concept to production.
- Build and deploy agents using machine learning or GenAI to enhance automation and early-warning capabilities across the credit portfolio.
- Ensure system reliability, maintainability, and integration with CI’s broader technology and data infrastructure, including collaboration with the Tech & Data group and external vendors.
Qualifications
- 3-6 years of experience in software development, data engineering, or quantitative analysis, preferably within a financial services or fintech context.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Python, SQL, or JavaScript; experience with BI tools, building dashboards and web-based applications is highly desirable.
- Experience working with large structured and unstructured datasets, ETL/data ingestion pipelines, and designing database architecture.
- Exposure to document parsing tools and NLP frameworks is a plus (e.g., OCR, Gen AI)
- Experience or interest in credit markets, financial analysis, and private investing.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams, with strong communication skills and comfort working with non-technical stakeholders.
- Familiarity with GenAI, LLMs, or machine learning applications is considered a strong asset.
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
