About the role
**Job Overview:**We are seeking a skilled and reliable General Machinist with at least 10 years of hands-on experience operating manual lathes, milling machines, and presses, along with working knowledge of mechanical assembly or repair. The ideal candidate will have strong blueprint-reading skills and be able to take a part from concept to completion with minimal supervision. This is a key role in a busy custom metal fabrication shop handling both production and one-off jobs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate manual lathes to machine components to precise tolerances
- Run vertical and horizontal milling machines for drilling, facing, slotting, and shaping
- Use hydraulic and mechanical presses for forming, punching, or assembly tasks
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and mechanical schematics
- Perform mechanical work including assembly, fitting, repairs, and troubleshooting
- Measure and inspect finished parts using micrometers, calipers, and gauges
- Maintain machines, tools, and workspace in proper working condition
- Work independently and communicate clearly with team members
- Follow all safety procedures and contribute to a clean, efficient shop environment
Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience as a general machinist in a machine or fabrication shop
- Proficiency operating manual lathes, mills, and presses
- Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and part drawings
- Strong mechanical aptitude for hands-on assembly, repair, or alignment work
- Familiarity with different materials: steel, stainless, aluminum, etc.
- Capable of lifting heavy materials and standing for extended periods
- Detail-oriented, dependable, and safety-conscious
Assets (Nice to Have):
- CNC programming
- Experience with welding, fabrication, or layout
- Forklift and overhead crane certification
- Experience with shafts, bushings, keyways, housings, or rotating equipment
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, low-volume/high-customization environment
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $28.00-$32.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
