This role is a hybrid work arrangement. Work schedule to be discussed with the hiring Manager according to the guidelines defined by the department.
Your role
Reporting to the Director of Capital Process Management & Asset Accounting:
Ensure the smooth operations of the capital planning and asset accounting functions. This includes accountability for the accurate accounting and reporting of capital assets, capacity and continuity planning of the department, process improvements and human resource development and management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coach, train, delegate and manage staff to ensure departmental objectives are met and accountable for the results produced.
- Participate in strategic planning of capital resources. Prepare a balanced capital plan for submission to Board and Treasury Board. Ensure all capital processes are followed to monitor the approved plan execution including business case submission, forecasting and carryover.
- Ensure proper controls of capital budgets, available capital and integrity of related financial data.
- Perform complex financial analysis to support business decision making.
- Ensure that the capital processes are in sync with the financial policies and procedures. Make recommendations for improvements.
- Ensure capitalization and accounting is done in accordance with applicable IFRS and produce deliverables required by Corporate Reporting. Liaise with Internal Control and other Finance groups to ensure proper controls are in place.
- Work with senior management of business units to ensure all reviews required by company policies and IFRS related to capital assets are done. Develop and improve processes where required.
- Set specific objectives for self and direct reports from broad directions from above.
- Exercise authorization of payments pursuant to approved Contracts and purchase orders, journal entries, financial management of capital assets and personnel management. Provide advice and guidance pertaining to capital asset accounting and financial management policies, methods and guidelines.
- Prioritize departmental deliverables and lead cross departmental projects that aim at improving cross functional efficiencies, integrated information and/or improved accuracy or problem prevention or detection.
- Conduct research on accounting and financial topics and tools where required to ensure the successful completion of tasks and projects assigned.
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
- Accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA) or equivalent combination of education and experience, and university degree in accounting or Finance.
- Minimum 5 years experience in a management role in Finance.
- CPA is a requirement.
- Excellent knowledge of accounting rules and their application, combined with an ability to perform rigorous, in-depth analyses.
- Excellent working knowledge of computer software (Spreadsheet, Database, Word Processor, Business Warehouse, SAP, PSR, Cognos and Monarch)
- Knowledge of Government Financing and CBC Financing is an asset;
- Bilingualism (English/French) is a strong asset.
- Knowledge of TV and Radio production, and related Engineering demands is an asset.
