Primary Responsibility:

As part of a team, translate and edit a variety of texts to help PSAC communicate in both official languages in a clear, relevant and timely manner.

What you will bring to the table:

Education/Experience

  • B.A. in translation plus five years of translation experience, or equivalent education and experience.

Knowledge

  • Demonstrated command of work-related tools (lexicons, translation memories, project management software, etc.) and willingness to explore new technology.
  • Solid grasp of a trade union’s role, activities and governance structure.

Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to skillfully translate and edit a variety of content, including highly technical material.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Personal suitability

  • Strong judgement, resourcefulness and flexibility to manage competing priorities.
  • Interest in current affairs, human rights and workers’ rights.
  • Eagerness to stay up to date on current affairs and developments in translation, editing, terminology, and social justice.

What you need to know:

  • Second language level indicated above is based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Preferred candidates may have their second language skills assessed as part of the hiring process. However, valid federal government SLE results can be used toward this.
