Position Summary

Provide medical assessment and treatment services utilizing skills as per Ontario Basic Life Support Patient Care Standards and schedule 1 and as assigned from schedule 2 of Ontario Regulation 257 under the Ambulance Act, while ensuring land ambulance transportation of ill and or injured persons to and from medical treatment facilities.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Patient Care:

  • Assess, interpret and evaluate patient vital signs, symptoms, and medical/incident history, survey findings and prioritize multiple patient situations, as per the Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support Patient care Standards

  • Perform authorized medical treatments such as maintaining and initiating intravenous fluid infusion, administering medications / drugs, CPR, immobilization of fractures and spinal injuries, operating semi-automatic defibrillators and mechanical devices, suctioning procedures, bandaging, controlling haemorrhaging, and treating wounds and injuries

  • Liaise with allied agencies to ensure relevant situation and patient information is collected and disseminated to the proper medical authority

  • Receive directions and instructions from medical authority in respect to appropriate patient care and treatment

  • Transfer patients from different positions, situations and locations in a safe protected manner utilizing various patient movement devises i.e. stretchers & stairs chairs, etc.

  • Complete required patient and administrative documentation and forms and ensuring safekeeping of patient records

Vehicle, Station and Supply Maintenance:

  • Drive ambulance and/or other vehicle as assigned and inspect vehicle and equipment for defects and cleanliness

  • Maintain adequate equipment and supplies and ensure their secure storage

  • Ensure the dispensing and drug count procedures are followed at all times

  • Carry out housekeeping duties within the ambulance stations and ambulance vehicles ensuring the areas are maintained in a clean sanitary condition

  • Perform deep cleaning of vehicles and equipment

General:

  • Incumbents must keep up-to-date on all relevant legislation, collective bargaining agreements, County Policies and Procedures, etc. ensuring that these are implemented as prescribed

  • Incumbents must possess the physical ability to meet the duties and responsibilities of the job description and/or the requirements identified within the position's Physical Demands Analysis

Functional Authority: May co-ordinate the work at a multi vehicle site incident. Provide orientation and advice to new paramedic staff and preceptor students during their training / clinical process regarding patient assessment, treatment, and transport

Credentials Required

Minimum Formal Education

  • Emergency Medical Care Assistant (EMCA) certificate or Advanced Emergency Medical Care Assistant (A-EMCA) certificate or EMCA or A-EMCA pending as defined in the Ontario Regulation 275 under the Ambulance Act.

  • Valid Class “F” Ontario Driver's License

  • Authorized by the medical director of a base hospital program to perform the controlled acts set out in schedule 1 and the authorized acts set out in Schedule 2 on Ontario Regulation. 257

  • CPR certificate

  • Complete and up-to-date Immunization Record

Experience:

  • None required

A valid Ontario driver's license and use of a vehicle.

Step 5 - Hiring Documentation – Physical Ability Testing, Health Screening, Criminal Record and Vulnerable Record Search and Driver’s License Abstract – Due September 17, 2025

Step 6 – Base Hospital Certification – September 18, 2025

Step 7 – Lambton EMS New Hire Onboarding – September 29, 30 and October 1, 2025 (Mandatory Attendance)

Students anticipating graduation from an Ontario based Paramedic Program in the Fall of 2025 are also eligible to apply. Graduation must be before September 29, 2025.
