MDS is looking for an Intermediate Data Acquisition and Instrumentation Engineer / Engineering who will work in a cross-platform environment including electrical, mechanical, optical, fluids and environmental disciplines. The ideal candidate must be equally at ease working in a group or autonomously within a cross-functional organizational structure and would be responsible for all aspects of instrumentation evaluation, design, and integration and commissioning.
What you will be doing:
- Designing instrumentation and data acquisition systems based on international standards. Generating and reviewing design documentation (DWGs, BOMs, Etc.)
- Performing uncertainty (error) analysis on components and systems
- Supporting production assembly and testing of instrumentation and data acquisition systems
- Specifying new instrumentation and performing product evaluations
- Supporting the development and submission of customer proposals
- Peer reviewing of instrumentation and data acquisition system designs
- Performing site commissioning of instrumentation and data acquisition systems globally
- Auditing of calibration of instrumentation and data acquisition components, sub-systems and systems
- Troubleshooting complex instrumentation systems
- Supporting engine testing operations
- Supporting research and test programs
Who are we looking for?
You have a minimum of 3-9 years of experience in the following areas:
- Design of data acquisition systems (DAS)
- Sensor and instrumentation equipment selection using datasheets and product manuals
- Measurement uncertainty (error) calculations for individual components and integrated systems
- Digital communication protocols & interfaces -IP, RS232, RS485, Ethernet, etc.
- Data synchronisation and latency techniques
- Data quality optimization i.e. range selection, resolution, noise reduction etc.
- Measurement techniques: temperature, pressure, strain, speed, position, flow, etc.
- Signal scaling techniques i.e. voltage, current, resistance, RTD, thermocouple, frequency etc.
- Calibration and maintenance of instrumentation and data acquisition equipment
- Configuring and programming of data acquisition and instrumentation devices
- Processing and statistical analysis of collected data
- Sensors, transducers, resolvers, thermocouples, RVDTs, Etc.
- Instrumentation testing, commissioning and troubleshooting techniques i.e. signal injection, accuracy tests, noise testing etc.
- Analog and digital I/O wiring and interfacing techniques
- Low voltage AC & DC power distribution
- Industrial electrical design
- Product development processes and procedures
- Product design & certification according to international standards - CSA, UL, ROHS, CE, RoHS, ATEX, etc.
- Experience in generating design documents and executing
- Experience in generating and executing product test procedures
- A working knowledge of system design, manufacturing and test methods
- Experience with hands-on electro-mechanical assembly, test, and verification
- Experience in product design for test, manufacturability, and reliability
- Experience using AutoCAD or other 2D/3D CAD tools
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
