Job Description Located out of our Calgary office, the individual in the Senior Accountant, Corporate Accounting role will report to the Manager, Corporate Accounting. The successful candidate will be responsible for Inter Pipeline’s corporate accounting activities.
Key Activities And Responsibilities
- Manage monthly and quarterly financial close calendars for the Corporate & Centre business unit teams ensuring timely and precise reporting
- Coach junior members on the team ensuring all entries are complete and accurate, including, but not limited to, payroll and compensation, G&A accruals, intercompany transactions, debt accounting, and investment and equity
- Review accruals, journal entries, account reconciliations, and working papers, ensuring compliance with internal SOX controls, IFRS, and policy standards
- Support on treasury related activities including cash applications and analysis of transactions
- Prepare and/or review of company wide standard rates, insurance allocations, equity pick ups and management service fee
- Prepare monthly and quarterly variance analysis and reporting packages for Inter Pipeline’s G&A, compensation, debt interest and other corporate expenses
- Support the annual G&A budgeting and forecasting processes
- Work collaboratively with internal teams such as HR, IT, Legal, Treasury, Office Services, and Communications to resolve queries and ensure alignment on accounting matters
- Liaise with IPL’s European accounting team on related intercompany transactions and quarterly inflation/discount rates
- Adhere to Inter Pipeline’s corporate accounting policies, internal SOX controls, the Income Tax Act, IFRS and contractual requirements by maintaining proper accounting procedures and practices
- Assist internal and external audit queries as required
- Support continuous improvement by identifying and implementing opportunities for process optimization and increased efficiency which will help accommodate growth
- Perform ad-hoc analysis and internal reporting (management reports, cash forecasts, queries, etc.)
Education, Skills And Experience
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
- 7+ years of applicable industry and/or public practice accounting experience, preferably in a general or corporate accounting role, and within the energy sector
- Expertise in accounting principles and practices under IFRS
- Prior experience in preparing and reviewing account reconciliations, particularly in the areas of payroll, compensation, debt, intercompany, and equity
- Knowledgeable with treasury-related transactions and cash applications
- Proficiency in SAP and Blackline
- Familiarity with SOX controls
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills, taking initiative to identify root causes and work with various stakeholders to resolve issues
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy, ensuring timely and precise accounting and reporting in a fast-paced, growth environment with tight deadlines
- Superior organizational skills, ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities both individually and across team
- Effective coaching and mentorship of junior team members to aide in their professional development
- Mindset for continual learning, growth and development
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and well-developed interpersonal skills managing both internal and external relationships
- Involvement in supporting internal and external audit queries
Hours Full Time (Monday – Friday)
As this position is identified as security sensitive, employment of a final candidate will be conditional upon completion of a criminal background check assessments with satisfactory results.
