Opportunity
The Sr. BI Specialist will assist in centralizing and enhancing our reporting suite using data hosted in Google's BigQuery and using visualization tools such as Tableau, Domo, and Looker. The goal is to transition from fragmented reports to a cohesive reporting environment that utilizes master and 360 tables as the single source of truth. This engagement will last for six months, focusing on reimagining and stabilizing our reporting processes.
Project Goals and Objectives
The primary goal of this engagement is to centralize our reporting suite and improve the quality and accessibility of business insights.
- Centralization of Reporting: Transition from numerous fragmented reports to a unified reporting framework using data hosted in Google's BigQuery.
- Enhanced Data Visualization: Create intuitive and interactive visuals in Tableau, Domo, or Looker that allow users to drill down into data and uncover insights.
- SQL Pipeline Development: Utilize the master/360 schema to build SQL pipelines in Dataform for generating reliable report sources.
- Legacy System Analysis: Review existing SQL pipelines to understand their logic and improve upon them in the new infrastructure.
The Contractor will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Engage with internal team members and end users to ask questions that help them to understand business requirements.
- Document requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Prepare a wireframe of the design in partnership with end users.
- Create clean, multi-purpose visuals in Tableau or similar BI tools.
- Build SQL pipelines in Dataform to generate report sources based on the master/360 schema.
- Analyze legacy SQL pipelines to extract logic and improve reporting processes, ensuring adherence to data best practices.
- Create comprehensive documentation for all developed reports and processes, including visualizations and SQL logic.
Deliverables:
- Reporting Transition Plan: A detailed plan for transitioning to the new reporting environment.
- Centralized Reporting Framework: Fully functional and centralized reports based on the master/360 schema.
- Comprehensive Documentation: Detailed documentation for all developed reports and processes.
- Knowledge Transfer Sessions: Documented knowledge transfer sessions with FTEs.
Contractor Requirements:
- 5 years of experience in BI development, with a proven track record of building reports and dashboards.
- Strong front-end BI development skills (preferably Tableau).
- Proficient in SQL with experience in building business KPIs through ETL processes.
- Understanding of Google's BigQuery.
- Experience with Dataform or dbt is desirable, but not mandatory.
- Proven understanding of business KPIs and the ability to generate actionable insights.
- Strong data storytelling and insight generation skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
