Salary: $5,270 – 5,491 – 5,719 – 5,957 – 6,200/month (2024 Rates)

Schedule: 70 hours bi-weekly; Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM – 4:45 PM (Nine-Day Fortnight)

This is moderately complex accounting and clerical work of a specialized nature related to investment banking and investment portfolio management for the City. An incumbent processes daily investment transactions; logs and tracks investment transactions; communicates orders with the City’s safekeeping depositories; calculates and records monthly investment income accruals; prepares related accounting journal entries. Prepares, reviews and updates a variety of cash reports; compiles data for cash flow projections; performs daily bank reconciliations and prepares electronic fund transfers; monitors cash demands and advises Cash Manager of potential shortfalls or surplus. An incumbent prepares, maintains and verifies a variety of reports, records and files pertaining to the department's investment portfolio, using electronic spreadsheet and investment management software to manage data. Processes assigned utility billings and prepares payment vouchers. Identifies, recommends and upon approval implements new or revised practices and procedures. An incumbent establishes and maintains effective working relationships with internal and external contacts; as required acts as staff resource for departmental software and as departmental receptionist. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 supplemented by the completion of the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) Preparatory Non-Core Courses or post-secondary course equivalencies that are required for entry in the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP), plus sound related municipal experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Considerable knowledge of applicable department functions, regulations, procedures and practices, including software applications and specified investment instruments as related to the work performed; basic accounting principles and business English and of modern office practices and procedures. Ability to make complex calculations and computations; perform a variety of account reconciliations, monthly accruals and prepare related journal entries; prepare and maintain a variety of files, records, reports and documents related to the work; to compose non-routine correspondence and memorandum, and to perform incidental typing duties using word processing and peripheral equipment; provide and obtain information and to interpret and explain department policies and procedures. Skill in the use of common office appliances and application software.
