Pivotree is seeking a Legal Counsel to join the company on a 12-month maternity leave contract. This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of the legal function at a high-growth eCommerce company. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, you will be solely responsible for managing the day-to-day legal operations of Pivotree and its subsidiaries across a broad range of commercial, corporate, and compliance matters. This fixed-term role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, independent environment and is comfortable operating as the sole in-house legal resource.
About the Role
This maternity leave contract offers a chance to step into a key legal role at a rapidly growing company. You will operate as the sole in-house legal counsel, making a meaningful impact while working independently in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
Responsibilities :
- Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of corporate/commercial agreements and related documents, including client (managed and professional services), channel partnership, reseller, vendor, non-disclosure, license, privacy and security and other similar agreements.
- Support the development and maintenance of internal policies, procedures, and templates.
- Assist with Pivotree’s securities compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support deal structuring and long-term contractual arrangements.
- Provide legal support for RFPs and procurement efforts.
- Advise on matters related to privacy, security, and intellectual property in collaboration with internal stakeholders and external counsel.
- Support privacy compliance initiatives across jurisdictions.
- Participate in legal due diligence and integration efforts related to M&A activity.
- Build and improve legal processes and templates to drive efficiency.
- Deliver legal and compliance training to internal teams.
- Provide day-to-day legal support on various issues as they arise.
Qualifications :
- LL.B./J.D. (required)
- Excellent academic credentials
- Licensed to practice law in a Canadian province (required)
- 3–5 years of legal experience, ideally with a background in the technology sector and prior in-house legal experience
Required Skills :
- Strong background in corporate/commercial law; experience with IP, privacy, securities, and compliance is an asset
- Excellent drafting, communication, and negotiation skills
- Proven ability to work independently and take ownership of legal matters
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Adaptable, proactive, and detail-oriented
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving, evolving environment
This is a full-time, fixed-term (maternity leave replacement) position.
