Reports to: QuickStart NS Director and Manager

About the Role

The QuickStart NS Supervisor will provide leadership and supervision to the QuickStart Nova Scotia programs across the Northern and Eastern zones. This full-time, 16-month term position is based out of the Autism NS Chapter in Truro. The supervisor will oversee parent-mediated coaching program designed to empower caregivers of toddlers (12-36 months) with a suspected, provisional, or confirmed diagnosis of autism, to teach and support their child’s development. The supervisor is also involved in the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) program, an extension of QuickStart NS for training requirements. This program provides autism specific early intervention to toddlers (31-48 months) with suspected, provisional or confirmed diagnosis of autism.

The role requires extensive collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, frequent travel throughout the zones, and involvement in staff supervision, training, and program evaluation.

Key Responsibilities

Program Management & Supervision

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of QuickStart NS programs for Northern and Eastern zones, including Parent-mediated Coaching, ESDM, and targeted interventions (e.g., sleep, behaviours that challenge).
  • Provide supervision, guidance, and support to Parent Coaches, including conducting in-person and virtual overlaps and coaching sessions.
  • Conduct and participate in weekly team meetings to ensure program fidelity and collaboration.
  • Perform onsite visits to regional office locations within the zones.
  • Manage referral intake, assessment, and wrap-up meetings with families.
  • Collect, report, and analyze program outcome data to support ongoing program evaluation and improvement.
  • Maintain fidelity to ESDM and parent coaching models by completing required direct intervention activities, including potentially leading families.

Training & Professional Development

  • Complete introductory and advanced ESDM training and maintain certification.
  • Participate actively in ongoing professional development and training to ensure current best practices.
  • Provide consultation to the team regarding implementation of ESDM and Parent Coaching curricula, parent support strategies, child goal attainment, and evidence-based practices.

Family & Community Engagement

  • Support families in implementing parent-mediated coaching to promote child communication, social skills, and development.
  • Facilitate linkages to community resources and appropriate referral sources as needed.

What You Bring

Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) certification required; candidates near completion of BCBA certification will be considered with probationary conditions.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience supervising multidisciplinary teams.
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience working with individuals with autism across a variety of ages and settings (home, community, daycare, etc.).
  • Experience designing, implementing, and monitoring individualized behaviour skill-building programs and focused intervention models.
  • Experience in parent training/coaching
  • Experience in providing supervision to staff across multiple sites and comfortable with online platforms to support remove supervision
  • Familiarity with natural environment teaching, including Pivotal Response Training and ESDM.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, observation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Experience assisting with assessment activities related to skill development curriculums and behavioural interventions.
  • Experience conducting assessments, , and developing positive behaviour support plans.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the job, including lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally.

Skills & Attributes

  • Excellent observation and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in tracking program data, preferably via Excel.
  • Knowledge of community-based service delivery systems and public awareness initiatives.
  • Multilingual skills an asset, especially French and/or Arabic.

Certifications

  • Current CPR-C and First Aid certification (yearly updated).
  • Current NVCI training.
  • Clear criminal record check.
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License and reliable vehicle.
  • Comfortable driving in all weather and road conditions.

Working Conditions

  • Extensive travel throughout Northern and Eastern Zone (up to 1.5 hours from the primary office location). Includes routine annual visits to the Eastern Zone’s main office to provide ongoing in-person supervision and training.
  • Combination of in-office, community-based, home, and online work settings.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
  • Physical demands include lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate training and family needs.
