About the role

Reporting to the Chairman, The  Legal Director  will serve as the senior legal advisor for Wanfeng Group’s worldwide manufacturing operations, ensuring compliance with international laws, mitigating risks, and providing strategic counsel on corporate transactions, intellectual property, labor issues, and regulatory affairs. This role requires a  strong background in manufacturing-sector legal challenges  and the ability to manage cross-border legal complexities.

Major Responsibilities of Position

1.    Corporate Governance & Compliance:

  • Advise the executive team on global corporate governance, board matters, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to international trade laws (e.g., EAR, ITAR, FCPA, GDPR, anti-bribery).
  • Oversee compliance with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations (e.g., OSHA, REACH).

2.    Contracts & Commercial Law:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate high-value contracts (supply agreements, joint ventures, M&A, OEM deals).
  • Manage IP protection (patents, trademarks, trade secrets) in collaboration with technology and engineering teams.
  • Resolve disputes, litigation, and arbitration (labor, product liability, commercial claims).

3.    Regulatory & Risk Management:

  • Monitor export controls, sanctions, and customs regulations for global supply chains.
  • Develop policies to mitigate risks in cross-border transactions, tariffs, and trade wars.
  • Lead internal investigations and ethics training to prevent compliance violations.

4.    Mergers, Acquisitions & Expansion:

  • Support due diligence, integration, and post-merger compliance for international acquisitions.
  • Advise on greenfield projects, joint ventures, and market-entry strategies.

5.    Team & Stakeholder Leadership:

  • Manage the platform legal team and outside counsel across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Assist and support the legal teams of Meridian & Diamond.
  • Partner with Operations, Finance, HR, and R&D to align legal strategy with business goals.
  • Train executives on legal risks, compliance updates, and corporate policies.

Education and Qualifications

  • 10+ years of legal experience, with 5+ years in a global manufacturing (automotive or aviation) or industrial company.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from a top Canadian or US law school.
  • Bar qualification: Canada & US (mandatory), China & Austria & Mexico (highly desired), Germany (preferred)
  • Expertise in international trade, contracts, corporate law, and compliance.
  • Microsoft Office Professional
  • Exceptional Presentation Skill
  • The ability to lead and collaborate in a team environment
  • Time/Priority Management
  • Strong negotiation, drafting, and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to simplify complex legal issues for non-legal stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
  • Fluency in English, Mandarin is preferred.
  • Ability to Travel
