Job Brief The Transportation Department currently has an opening for a permanent Traffic Signal & Lighting Engineer.

External July 7, 2025 Traffic Signal & Lighting Engineer (Permanent Full Time Position) The City of Lethbridge ( ) serves a community of over 106,000 residents and is comprised of 1500 employees across a wide variety of business areas. The Transportation Department currently has an opening for a permanent Traffic Signal & Lighting Engineer .

WAGE RANGE: $49.57 - $61.95 per hour ( Candidates who do not meet the full requirements of the role may be considered at a developmental rate of pay until full proficiency in the role has been reached. STATUS: Permanent - $37.5 hours weekly

The Signals & Lighting Engineer has a variety of responsibilities including, but not limited to, reviewing design and traffic analysis support for intersections and roadway projects, undertraining traffic impact assessments, traffic studies and reviews of TIS submitted by consultants. This role also undertakes traffic safety analysis and maintains traffic collision and traffic counts database and develops computer programs and methodologies for the analysis of the counts and collisions. The Engineer manages traffic & lighting engineering/roadway and intersection improvement projects. Coordinating with and maintaining positive and productive relationships with internal and external agencies, consultants, contractors and suppliers is a fundamental component of this position.

Qualifications Qualifications include a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering/Transportation Engineering with a minimum of five (5) years of experience and knowledge of engineering principles and practices relating to traffic engineering analysis and design, transportation planning, roadway geometric design, traffic signal design, traffic data analysis and traffic safety. A Professional Engineer designation or the willingness to obtain one is preferred.

Requirements

  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft products including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access or other database applications and the ability to work with GIS and AutoCAD.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience in traffic analysis and signal design software Synchro/Sim Traffic.
  • Ability to research, analyze, estimate and present recommendations both orally and in writing for a variety of engineering projects to various audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and focus on priorities among multiple assignments while maintaining effective working relationships with staff and the public.
  • Ability to project manage both signal and lighting projects
  • Ability to effectively communicate in various ways/methods (verbally, reports, e-mail etc.) to many audiences.
