Kyuquot Elementary-Secondary School Vice Principal Competition The School Kyuquot Elementary Secondary School is a small BC public school located on the beautiful west coast of Vancouver Island. Kyuquot Elementary Secondary School enrolls approximately 45 students from Grades 1-12, the majority being of First Nations ancestry. The Village of Kyuquot is sheltered by a unique and picturesque archipelago and surrounded by beautiful Northwest Coast Vancouver Island wilderness.

The school is seeking an enthusiastic, resourceful and proficient Vice Principal who would be excited to foster the two goals of the District's Education Plan: supporting student well-being and ensuring success for all learners.

The community provides unparalleled ocean-based recreational activities (fishing, canoeing, kayaking), hiking, the beauty of Kyuquot's protected bay, and archipelago, all in proximity to the renowned Brookes Peninsula and Bunsby Islands.

Our District Our district delivers public education to approximately 350 students in the First Nations communities of Kyuquot, Oclucje, Ehatis, and Tsaxana, as well as the rural villages of Zeballos, Tahsis, and Gold River.

Our Region We are located on the beautiful and rugged west coast of Vancouver Island. Three of our schools are in remote rural communities accessible by logging roads and/or water taxi and include accommodations for school-based administrators. Two of our schools and the School Board Office are in the Village of Gold River, which is ninety kilometers west of Campbell River on a paved road. Our district serves a diverse community. Approximately sixty percent of our students are First Nations. The district is well suited to school leaders who want to be fully engaged in their community and enjoy access to wilderness pursuits and rural and remote living in a spectacular setting.

The Position Qualifications The vice principal provides leadership and support for all manner of educational and operational activities in the school environment. The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications, experiences, and attributes:

  • British Columbia Teacher Regulation Branch certification or eligibility;
  • Completion of a post-graduate program, post-graduate program in progress, or willingness to undertake one;
  • A minimum of two years of successful teaching experience is required, a minimum of five years is preferred;
  • Successful experience with improving outcomes for Indigenous learners and a commitment to a personal journey toward Truth and Reconciliation;
  • Demonstrated leadership in assessment and reporting;
  • The ability to reinforce high expectations for student behaviour using a restitution model;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills;
  • Demonstrated skills in working with collective agreements in a unionized environment;
  • Strong leadership, teambuilding, and managerial skills;
  • Demonstrated initiative and record of innovative practices to engage all learners; and
  • Strong interest in working with parents and the community and the skill to engage parents and students in issues concerning learning and school life.

The salary range for Vice Principals is $130,002 - $145,721 per year.
