Job Summary
As a Financial Accountant, you will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records for The Salvation Army, preparing reconciliations and journal entries to ensure the integrity of our ledgers. You will take ownership of financial statements for designated ministry units, working directly with clients to resolve issues and provide clear guidance. This role offers the opportunity to identify and recommend process improvements while making a meaningful impact through your expertise in financial management.
Key Accountabilities
- Completes complex account reconciliations, daily bank reconciliations, and prepares accruals and journal entries to maintain accurate financial records.
- Reviews ministry unit financial statements for accuracy, cash flow, fund balances, and budget performance.
- Prepares financial and analytical reports to support decision-making and financial health monitoring.
- Manages incoming and outgoing bank transfers, ensuring transactions are authorized, documented, and processed on time.
- Supports year-end processes and ensures transactions align with policies and correct accounting periods.
- Acts as the primary client contact for financial statement issues, providing clear guidance while building respectful partnerships.
- Assists ministry units with budget preparation, variance analysis, and financial health monitoring, escalating concerns as needed.
- Completes government reporting requirements, including tax rebates and CRA charitable filings (T3010).
- Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders while maintaining confidentiality and handling high volumes of sensitive financial data.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Qualifications
- Completion of a university degree in Finance/Accounting.
- Two (2) years of experience in an accounting/finance environment.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Demonstrates integrity, confidentiality, and professional ethics with fairness and flexibility.
- Advanced Excel skills, including VLookups, index/match, and complex formulas for handling large data sets.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $48,428.77 to $60,535.97 with a maximum of $72,643.16.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
