Position Summary

The Manager, Internal Communications will be responsible for the development, implementation and operation of a comprehensive Internal Communications & Culture program. This includes developing an annual plan for the Internal Communications and Culture Program, execution of the program, reporting/evaluation, as well as managing all procedures and content relating to the program.

The Manager will:

  • Design and implement an internal communications & culture content strategy;
  • Lead monthly organization-wide Town Halls, webinar series and our internal newsletter, as well as manage content for the intranet homepage;
  • Measure and report on the effectiveness of the program as well as NCC’s employee communications tools;
  • General oversight and maintenance of content designed for landing pages of NCC intranet platform.
  • Provide a centre of excellence and subject matter expertise on aspects of internal communications;
  • Contribute to the organization’s equity, diversity and inclusion goals;
  • Help formulate responses to internal communications crisis situations which may affect organizational perception or reputation; and
  • Plan and executive virtual & in-person staff engagement programming as needed.

This position reports to the Vice President, Public Affairs & Communications. The individual will have a holistic view of organizational purpose, values, goals and priorities and effectively disseminate this information in two-way channels. They will also work closely with colleagues in the President’s Office and Human Resources and consult broadly across the organization on various initiatives.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, media, marketing, project management or related subject.
  • 3-5 years of experience in internal or external communications, editorial, employee engagement, facilitation, DEI, virtual event planning, or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills as well as the journalistic ability to source stories from employees.
  • Strong public speaking and facilitation skills for hosting organization-wide meetings and to give presentations to staff.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills to engage other business units and receive buy-in. Individual should be comfortable working with senior executives and explain communication strategies to leaders and influence communications deliverables.
  • Strong understanding of the organization’s goals, values, and structure, and the ability to relay them to employees.
  • Experience working on organizational equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives preferred.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Teams, HTML, PowerPoint, Photoshop, video editing software, some web design.
  • Strong organizational/project management skills.
  • Calm, confident, and systematic approach to meeting deadlines and goals.
  • Understanding and sensitivity to equity, diversity and inclusion topics and issues.
  • Ability to work independently while also working effectively with larger teams.
  • Bilingualism or experience working in a bilingual environment an asset.
  • Appreciation for nature conservation and belief in the NCC mission.
