Job Description
Island Health has an opening for a part-time Psychiatrist to join our Developmental Disability Mental Health Team (DDMHT). The successful applicant will work with DDMHT, providing assessment and consultation to patients from 14 years and up with a range of intellectual disability (ID), including autism, FASD, Down Syndrome and mental health and substance use needs.
Main Responsibilities
- Join a dedicated interdisciplinary team of Nurses, Psychologists, OT, and Psychiatrists.
- Offer a specialized community-based consultation service providing assessment and review.
- Work with family physicians and the community care teams and families that support youth (14 years and older) and adults with ID.
- Consultative Service may include telehealth outreach to other parts of Vancouver Island.
- Help design and run modified CBT &/or DBT groups for individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health needs.
- On call responsibility is mandatory for Island Health psychiatry services.
- Teaching of medical students and residents is an expectation of this role.
- Participation in research is strongly encouraged and facilitated by Island Health.
- Administrative duties include attending clinical team meetings and providing reports to the Department of Psychiatry meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Eligible for full licensure to practice psychiatry in British Columbia (CPSBC).
- FRCPC – eligible, mandatory.
- Experience and training in comprehensive psychiatry services, and skills and experience in a collaborative care model.
- Capacity and interest to build relationships with the other services/staff.
Additional Information
- All part-time Psychiatry positions can be combined with available other part-time positions to create a rewarding and diverse full-time Psychiatry practice.
