37.5 hours weekly following school calendar Normandeau School
August 25, 2025 to December 19, 2025 with possibility of extension
Temporary position replacing a leave of absence
This position will collaborate with district staff, school-based staff and community service providers to promote mental wellness and support emotional development of students as part of the Learning Support Team. The Family School Liaison Counsellor will also provide a variety of intervention services in collaboration with students and their families. FSLCs have experience in short-term, skills-focused counseling to address various issues, including anger management, anxiety, grief, and relationship problems.
The hours of work will follow a typical work schedule 8:00am - 4:00pm, however, flexibility to work outside the regular schedule is essential. This position is a 10 month position, following the school calendar.
Education And Qualifications
- The successful candidate will possess an equivalent Bachelors or Masters Degree in Social Work (preferred). Other health discipline professions may be considered.
- Active registration with the applicable professional association or Alberta College of Social Workers is required.
- Desirable: ASIST Suicide Prevention Training, SIVA, VTRA, various Psychosocial Interventions (CBT, DBT, ACT, Solution Focused)
- Ability to make key judgements and informed decisions for successful outcomes.
- Organization, strong teamwork skills, the ability to prioritize multiple demands, excellent interpersonal skills, time management, flexibility, and initiative.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license, current driver’s abstract and access to a reliable vehicle.
Experience
- Familiar with implementing Life Space Interviews and Change Models
- Experience working with children and/or youth, families and community service providers.
- Strong foundational knowledge with regard to trauma-informed classrooms, strength-based solution-focused practice, parent coaching and mental health capacity building.
- Knowledge of software applications relevant to the position such as Google platforms.
- Awareness and connection to community resources
