About the role

This DM position is to cover a maternity leave until May 2026.

In addition to the roles and responsibilities as a Pharmacist, the Designated Pharmacy Manager is responsible for the supervision of all aspects of pharmacy operations ensuring that the pharmacy operates according to the Standards set by the College.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and maintain policies and procedures to comply with the legislative requirements of operating a licensed pharmacy.
  • Managing pharmacy operations and maintaining a professional and cohesive working relationship with staff
  • Developing monthly pharmacist schedules and ensure that a pharmacist is always available for continuous operation
  • Assess medication incidents and develop strategies to minimize recurrence
  • Establish and maintain excellent relationships with agencies/clients
  • Recruit, train, motivate and evaluate all pharmacy staff to ensure proper staffing and efficient pharmacy operations
  • Adhere to annual budget and work to help with company’s financial growth
  • Recommend, implement, and drive continuous improvement activities through the implementation of change management processes, and best practice
  • Checking email and responding accordingly in a timely fashion
  • Coordinate with other Leaders to address issues and incidents related to operations and compliance
  • Conduct annual team lead and review staff performance evaluations
  • Assign responsibilities/miscellaneous tasks to staff as needed
  • Ensure MedsChecks quotas are met monthly and yearly per location and each pharmacist.
  • Ensure Pharmaceutical Opinions are being billed for each clinical intervention each pharmacist completes.

Roles and Responsibilities as a Pharmacist

  • Ensure that prescriptions, refill requests and blister packs from Customers, Doctors or other Healthcare Professionals are filled accurately, efficiently and safely using the established workflow
  • Counsel and provide information to patients/clients who require assistance with their medications/condition(s)
  • Provide assistance to clients/patients in selecting the best possible products for their needs
  • Help ensure proper storage of pharmaceutical products
  • Protect and maintain patient privacy at all times
  • Provide patients eligible pharmacy services (i.e. medication reviews, immunization injections etc.) as per patient needs
  • Help develop company policies and procedures
  • Provide training and guidance to pharmacy assistants, staff and new hires
  • Help monitor and maintain pharmacy inventory according to pharmacy needs
  • Help ensure that pharmacy policies and regulations are in accordance with provincial/federal regulations as required by OCP (i.e. narcotic receiving and destruction, documentation, confidentiality etc.)
  • Monitor for Drug Related Problems (DRP) and discuss the issue with the patient/ doctor and help come up with solutions to resolve the issue
  • Review outgoing faxes/communication for appropriateness and completeness (Dr. faxes, Rx transfers, financial statements etc.)
  • Help manage medication shortages and recommend therapeutic alternatives where appropriate.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science, Pharmacy and a Class A Pharmacists license a must.
  • Superior customer relations skills and a strong sense of professionalism.
  • Excellent leadership and performance management skills required.
  • Proven ability to build the business using community-based marketing strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills including the experience formulating and executing action plans.
  • Strong personal computing skills

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60.00 per hour

Expected hours: 36 – 45 per week

Additional pay:

  • Bonus pay
  • Commission pay

Schedule:

  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekends as needed

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Newmarket, ON L3Y 3E4: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Experience:

  • pharmacist: 1 year (required)

Licence/Certification:

  • Pharmacy License (required)
