Position Summary Pharmacy Technician, Centre for Complex Diabetes Care Your goal in this position is to contribute to the operation of the Centre through the day to day maintenance of essential support services (under the supervision of assigned Staff Pharmacist and overall supervision by the Manager of the Centre). You are a great relationship builder, communicate effectively with peers across the entire organization and effortlessly connect with physicians, staff, patients, and families. You are also highly organized, have great interpersonal skills and adapt well in a dynamic environment. You are able to work as well as a part of an inter-professional team. This position supports the hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families

On a practical level, you will

  • Perform inventory control functions
  • Obtain Best Possible Medication History (BPMH) to facilitate medication reconciliation
  • Be responsible for medication dispensing
  • Perform information gathering & prescription data entry
  • Be responsible for prescription processing (counting, labeling & related filing responsibilities)

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a recognized Pharmacy Technician program at the Community College level
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (C.Ph.T) designation from the Ontario College of Pharmacists
  • Experience in hospital pharmacy preferred
  • Diabetes Care and Medication Management experience, an asset
  • Best Possible Medication History (BPMH)/Medication Reconciliation experience
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current concepts of retail and hospital pharmacy practice
  • Demonstrate knowledge in Pharmaceutical Math
  • Accurate and efficient typing skills
  • Proficient in the use of Pharmacy Computer System and ability to support basic trouble-shooting
  • Good knowledge of the operation and standards of practice for Pharmacy Technicians in hospital setting

This is a Part-time Regular Position with 8 hour shifts, days, in the Centre for Complex Diabetes Care. We offer a highly competitive total compensation package which includes pay in lieu of benefits, vacation pay and the opportunity to join the Hospital Pension Plan.
