DUTIES**:**

Reporting to the Manager, Transportation Planning & Design, this position will act as an initial filter for planning and development proposals, providing foundational support to the Planning & Design team. This position is responsible for conducting preliminary reviews of planning and development applications (e.g., rezoning, site plan control, minor variances, etc.) to identify potential transportation-related impacts and ensure alignment with basic policy requirements. This position supports the Planning & Design team by preparing initial comments, organizing documentation, and assisting in maintaining records. Will assist with inquiries and basic data analysis, while escalating more complex issues to senior staff. Compile and organize supporting documentation for review by senior staff. Prepare draft comments and standard responses on behalf of Planning & Design for development applications and other related inquiries. Assist in maintaining accurate records and background files related to development proposals. Schedule and coordinate internal meetings as required, including preparing materials and taking meeting notes. Respond to routine inquiries from the public, developers, and internal departments, escalating more complex issues as necessary. Provide support in the preparation of Planning & Design field surveys and assist in data entry and preliminary analysis of collected data. Assist with basic traffic impact study reviews, focusing on data validation and formatting for senior review. Maintain the collision database by receiving, sorting, and preparing data for entry. Assist with service requests and public complaints by gathering background information and preparing draft responses for review. Attend meetings with developers, consultants, and other City staff as required to observe and record discussions related to transportation issues. Provide administrative support for Environmental Assessments and policy reviews, including drafting basic mapping and presentation materials. Perform site visits to gather preliminary data or observations for review by senior staff. Will perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation’s Health and Safety Program. Will perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS**:**

  • Must have a three (3) year post-secondary school Community College Diploma in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering Technology or related field or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency;
  • Must have over six (6) months of experience in traffic engineering or road safety.
  • Must hold and maintain a current valid and lawful Class ‘G’ Driver’s Licence in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act, for the purpose of operating a City of Windsor vehicle and provide a driver’s abstract as a condition of employment;
  • Must have knowledge of the Planning Act, related legislation and provincial policies;
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills, organizational and documentation skills;
  • Experience with traffic analysis software or GIS software considered an asset;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite of Products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) will be considered an asset;
  • Given that this job is a new position a Physical Demands analysis will be completed with the incumbent after approximately six months of occupying the position.
