THE ROLE
As a member of the nursing team, this position works under the direction of the Registered Nurse / Registered Practical Nurse while providing personal care to residents in assigned areas in accordance with individual resident care plans. The position complies with all legislative standards, company policies/procedures and rules/regulations in a professional manner.
Reports to: Registered Nurse/Registered Practical Nurse
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Under the direction of the registered nursing staff, provides personal care to promote the comfort and safety of residents. Some typical activities include bathing, skin care, toileting, mouth care, dressing/undressing, grooming, shaving, nail and hair care. Provides physical assistance to residents as required.
- Assist with clinical support. These may include collecting specimens and checking vital signs among various other tasks in the home.
- Maintain the clean and safe environment of residents. This involves cleaning resident rooms, ensuring bed cleanliness and keeping resident space clean.
- Follows and promotes health and safety standards within the workplace as well as comply with cleanliness and quality assurance policies.
- Engages with residents of various backgrounds and helps them with admissions, discharges and meal services.
- Provides emotional/social support for residents.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Required Qualifications)
- Every new employee hired by peopleCare to work as a PSW must have successfully completed a Personal Support Worker program that meets requirements of Fixing Long Term Care Act: Reg. 246/22 or meet the criteria in 52(1). (Ontario Educated).
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must have High School Diploma (or equivalent)
- Experience with the Elderly and in Long-Term Care is considered an asset
