Rainy River Mine Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.

The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. If you enjoy outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, winter sports and lake country then this is an area you will love to live and work in.

Applicants who reside in Northwestern Ontario and have experience working in a cross-cultural environment, coupled with knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities presented to those living in the Northwest Ontario, are assets. About The Role Position: Temporary Construction Labourer

Schedule: Shift 7/7 – 12 hour days/nights

Position Reports To: Construction Shift Supervisor

Position Overview Reporting to the Construction Supervisor, the Construction Labourer will provide general support to the Rainy River New Gold Construction for the TMA Stage 7 Raise construction and other projects as required. This temporary position will have a six (6) month term and will be based at the Rainy River Mine Site in Blackhawk, Ontario. As a member of the New Gold Capital Projects department, the Labourer is expected to live by the New Gold values of sustainability, operational excellence, people and growth in their daily work. The successful candidate must demonstrate commitment to and compliance with all company and industry Health & Safety, Environmental, and Social Responsibility policies and is responsible for engaging their work with the Courage to Care; never compromising on safety, looking out for one another, and stopping work if it is not safe. This is an entery-level position, t he successful applicant will recieve on the job training to aquire the necessary skills and knowledge required for the position. We are looking for an applicant who will have great attendance, positive work attitude and willingness to learn.

  • Preference will be given to local residents of the Rainy River District. Camp & travel accommodations are not provided.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Champion Site Safety Policies & Procedures

  • Maintain review compliance to all relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other site safety policies and procedures on a minimum annual basis or as policies and procedures are revised.

  • Perform work in compliance to all relevant policies and procedures and ensure that all mining regulations and company safety standards are met or exceeded in all aspects of work performed by self and others.

  • Complete a daily Field Level Risk Assessment (FLRA) documenting work activity, safety risks, and the controls and mitigations applied by the worker to reduce the level of risk and prevent incidents.

  • Conduct Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for non-routine tasks and ensure that all work performed is supported by a formal assessment of risks and hazards which has been reviewed and signed off prior to work.

  • Participate in morning toolbox talk discussing the work activities, raising and addressing safety concerns, and participating actively in the Positive Action Safety System (P.A.S.S.).

  • Maintain & Inspect Equipment

  • Responsible for fuelling and refilling of lube and grease on heavy equipment; including front-end loaders, dozers, excavators, haul trucks, and other pieces of equipment as required.

  • Responsible for light vehicle fuel levels and basic service checks.

  • Perform thorough circle checks of equipment documenting all issues on equipment logbook, and clean, maintain, and secure all equipment as directed by legislation, policies, and procedures.

  • Maintain Site Housekeeping & Perform Site Preparation

  • Maintain Construction seacans in a neat and orderly fashion and keep track and maintain inventory of required supplies. Communicate to the Construction Administrator required material orders & purchases.

  • Maintain laydown to meet environmental standards as per mine regulations, ie: spill trays, waste removal.

  • Assist with work front site preparation such as moving and setting up light plants, spill trays, delineators, signage, or other activities as required.

  • Conduct Labour Activities

  • Assist with instrumentation raises as required; running hand packer, remove waste, cutting HDPE pipe.

  • Perform manual labour and lifting as required; geotextile cloth, unloading of supplies, waste removal, survey assistance with stakes, general lifting and handling of materials, etc.

  • Operate Equipment

  • The Temporary Labourer may be trained on Telehandler, 400 Series Loader, or 45T Articulated Rock Truck as time permits and as required by the department to meet business needs.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and self-starter approach.
  • Demonstrate commitment to working safely and creating a safe working environment for others.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal, verbal, listening, and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as individually with minimal supervision.
  • Previous experience operating equipment, in construction, or in mining industry is an asset but not a requirement.
  • Physical fitness is an asset as manual labour is required in this role.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 Diploma or GED Preferred
  • Valid Class G Canadian Driver’s License

Working Conditions

  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and wind conditions.
  • Working outdoors on uneven terrain and slopes of various materials in active construction areas.
  • Driving, walking, and working in congested high-traffic mining and construction areas with heavy equipment.
  • Frequent lifting and carrying of items required (typically less than 23 kgs).

Work Schedule

  • 7 Days On / 7 Days Off
  • Wednesday to Tuesday Working Schedule
  • 12 Hours Per Day/Night
  • Alternating Day Shift & Night Shift
