The Opportunity
Our British Columbia and Yukon Provincial Head Office is seeking a superior, hands-on leader to ensure our Surrey branch can perform at its best.
The Surrey Branch Manager leads all activities at the branch and requires a talented leader with a diverse range of skills to ensure the branch performs to its potential.
Our branches are primarily charged with delivering first aid training courses; additionally, we sell first aid products through our branches, and they also serve as community hubs for our volunteers. The Surrey Branch Manager will have the ability and agility to move from one area of focus to another on an ongoing basis. Their functions will encompass team leadership, customer management, instructor management and development, business development, and administration.
As a leader, the Branch Manager will be expected to support wider organizational initiatives to help SJA BCY continuously improve its ability to serve customers and communities. They will also act as an ambassador for the organization with customers, volunteers, and in the communities we serve.
Responsibilities and Duties
Leadership & Team Management:
- Support team member(s) to grow their skills, experience, and responsibilities by acting as a coach and mentor when needed.
- Foster a positive, supportive, and collaborative working environment at the branch.
Strategic Planning:
- Build an annual Performance Plan for the branch.
- Support the development of strategic planning initiatives at PHQ or with other divisions/departments as requested from time to time.
- Lead planning for annual class schedule for the branch.
Financial Management:
- Deliver revenue and expense targets per the Performance Plan/Budget.
- Carefully manage branch expenses to make best use of company resources/funds.
Customer Relationship Management:
- Build strong relationships with customers (companies) that use SJA BCY; grow relationships with customers (students, revenue).
- Proactively engage with customers to drive revenue and class attendance.
- Partner with Business Development to drive revenue and customer growth.
Administration:
- Ensure all SJA BCY policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Document and report on all branch activities to align with organizational reporting needs (e.g. monthly financials).
- Oversee the branch team to maintain compliance to branch standards and operational and administrative procedures.
- Support other branches as needed.
Instructor Engagement:
- Build strong and supportive relationships with instructors.
- Lead instructor scheduling to maximize class delivery.
- Identify potential candidates for future instructors.
Facilities Management:
- Monitor and take action as needed to ensure a high quality branch experience for students and instructors at all times, including repairs, maintenance, cleaning, and supplier management.
- Engage with 3rd parties to ensure SJA BCY needs are met (e.g. landlords, etc.).
- Make recommendations to PHQ for branch improvements.
Volunteer & Community Engagement:
- Build strong relationships with local Brigade, Cadet, and Therapy Dog teams as appropriate.
- Support delivery of volunteer activities when/where needed.
- Represent SJA BCY in the community from time to time (e.g. at events, chambers of commerce, schools etc.).
Qualifications and Skills
- You are a strong leader of teams in a customer facing facility.
- You are comfortable working with a clear remit to lead a facility or small business unit as its own ‘profit center’, with distinct performance goals.
- You are motivated by growth, and by leading a team or business unit to maximize its potential.
- You are a good connector with strong interpersonal skills; able to build quality relationships with internal and external partners; you engage well with people across the organization.
- You thrive on variety – shifting from one task or skill to another on a regular basis. You can keep multiple balls in the air with confidence and have a high attention to detail.
