Job Description Division: Economic Development

Department: Office of the Chief Administrative Officer

Initial Reporting Location: Tom Davies Square

Job Status: Limited position (Funded Position - Sudbury Local Immigration Partnership Project)

Estimated Probable Duration: August 16, 2025 to March 31, 2028

Number of Vacancies: 1

Affiliation: CUPE 4705 Inside Unit

Hours of Work: 70 hours bi-weekly

Shift Work Required: No

Range of Pay: Group 7 $28.04 to $32.82 per hour

Characteristic Duties: Under the general supervision of a Business Development Officer.

  • Assist clients with on-line business registrations.
  • Guide, advise, and counsel clients through business start-up procedures, business planning, market research, regulations and available resources.
  • Assist in directing clients to the appropriate public and private sector business resources.
  • Develop and deliver seminar, workshop and presentation materials.
  • Participate and assist with relevant conferences, workshops, trade fairs and events as required.
  • Assist in the organization, implementation and reporting for various programs and initiatives delivered by the Economic Development division.
  • Track internal statistics on activities, job creation, start –ups, expansions and investments as well as input data as required by government agencies and community partners.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports for various partners of the Economic Development division.
  • Assist in the delivery of various projects and community partner related programs and activities.
  • Work outside regular office hours as required.
  • Develop and maintain a through working knowledge of CGS’s Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • S uccessful completion of a Community College Diploma or University degree in Business Administration, Marketing or Economic Development.
  • U p to six (6) months related experience.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Knowledge of various computer applications including Windows based systems, Internet, word processing, data base and spreadsheet applications.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Demonstrate organizational and analytical ability.
  • Demonstrate skills and abilities related to the use of information technology.
  • Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
  • French verbal and written skills an asset
  • Satisfactory health, attendance and employment history.
  • Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid Ontario driver’s licence, have an acceptable driving record, and personal insurance coverage.

Competencies: Competency Library - Level 1 Proficiency

This job is also being posted as a development opportunity. Should there be no fully qualified candidate for this position, a candidate who can be expected to meet the required qualifications within a reasonable period of time may be considered for this position as a development opportunity.

Development opportunity range of pay: $27.20 to $31.98 per hour. The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced range until the minimum qualifications have been met.
