Job Summary Provides Field Evaluation Services (Special Inspection, Field Certification, and US Field Evaluation) services to clients in North America. Under general direction, provides Field Evaluation services for clients from the application review stage to the point at which the product is labelled and beyond. Holds projects and conducts on-site evaluations and testing of electrical/electronic products under Field Evaluation guidelines. Protects the integrity and credibility of the CSA mark by conducting factory inspections on products and processes to ensure on-going compliance with the applicable requirements. Witnesses tests at factory locations.
Responsibilities
- Performs technical evaluations of non-certified equipment within their area of expertise. Ensures product meets technical requirements and is free of potential for fire and shock hazards. Decisions are based on field evaluations and testing under the Field Evaluation program. Decisions are based on a visual evaluation, standards examination and testing under the Field Evaluation program. Technically competent to evaluate all products, including new and unique products, with assistance of other technical staff as necessary.
- Communicates with clients in a professional manner to schedule inspection appointments, review costing procedures, answer questions, and provide technical information service and direction based on the scope of the Field Evaluation program. Reviews submitted technical drawings for evaluation. Documents with sufficient detail, technical reports for required alterations to sub-standard equipment. Reviews details of corrective action with client.
- Prepares for Field Evaluation and Factory Inspection trips by gathering and reviewing all required files and documentation according to trip preparation procedures. Consults with other team members to assure efficient scheduling of calls. Performs factory inspections on certified products including review of manufacturer’s quality control records to ensure on-going compliance with the applicable requirements. Performs Pre-license and Routine factory inspections/audits on behalf of CSA Partners in North America. Orders removal of CSA markings where warranted.
- Performs Initial Factory Evaluations upon request. Executes special assignments, such as special visits to factories or other locations on behalf of Audits & Investigations. Witnesses, on behalf of jobholder/engineer, tests carried out by manufacturer’s personnel at factory locations, commensurate with experience and training.
- Maintains follow-up systems and correspondence with manufacturers addressing outstanding issues from discussions during preceding factory inspection or Field Evaluation visit.
- Provides training, guidance and direction to less experienced staff. Provides liaison between manufacturing and CSA in the areas of customer service, applications, and provides information on certification process and other CSA Services. Accompanies regional and foreign personnel locally, on training, as required.
- Conducts research on technical and procedural issues, including: technical research on standards, SI Guidelines. Collaborates with Engineering, Lab and colleagues with respect to procedural issues, interpretation and past practices. Performs other related duties, as required.
Education And Experience
- 3-year Engineering Technologist diploma, or Licensed Journeyman or equivalent
- 7-years, including Certification and Inspection, experience
- Knowledge of a variety of electrical equipment including components, wiring methods, electrical codes and product standards.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision
