POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director, Professional Practice and Nursing Development, you will provide clinical and educational expertise with a patient-centered and evidence-informed focus to support and advance nursing excellence and quality of care corporately and within the Emergency Department at the Charlton Campus, and Ambulatory Services at King Campus inclusive of SJHH Urgent Care Centre. You will be responsible for assessing learning needs, designing, delivering and evaluating educational programs and will play an active role in nursing and departmental visioning, planning and development. You will be responsible for effectively collaborating with the other members within the Professional Practice and Nursing Development department, the Department of Education, and Clinical Programs to assist in corporate-wide educational initiatives as assigned. Additionally, you will encourage ongoing learning, professional growth, continual quality enhancement, and service excellence by exemplifying, coaching, and mentoring, and by facilitating effective resource coordination to address recognized educational and developmental requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required, Master’s Degree in Nursing or Education preferred
- CNA Certification in relevant nursing specialty preferred
- Membership in nursing professional association preferred
- Certificate in Critical Care or Emergency Nursing preferred
- At least 5 years of clinical experience in Emergency Nursing
- Two years’ experience in a clinical teaching role preferred
- Demonstrated excellence in nursing practice within relevant nursing specialty area and in education
- Demonstrated understanding of relevant health legislation and standards of practice
- Commitment to excellence in all aspects of the discipline: professional practice, education, & research
- Strong clinical and theoretical background with a strong focus on surgical and critical care
- Demonstrated leadership ability with expertise in both clinical practice and education
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability in all aspects of adult education, including needs analysis, program and curriculum design, and evaluation
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to utilize principles of knowledge transfer to facilitate practice change & implementation of best practices
- Ability to work effectively autonomously and to develop and sustain collaborative relationships internally and externally with the community and with academic partners
- Demonstrated expertise in quality improvement, project and change management
- Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, organize, & prioritize work within a dynamic environment
- Ability to use information technology and demonstrate working knowledge and proficiency in appropriate computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Learning Management Systems, Electronic Documentation, Digital Order Sets, all Nursing Related or Clinical Software Applications supported by SJHH
- Good attendance and work record are essential
- Current ACLS, ATLS, PALS, CTS preferred
- Excellent working knowledge of current and future trends in health care & within the nursing profession
- A resume outlining additional education, qualifications and experience must accompany the application
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrates advanced knowledge of clinical and education best practices
- Collaborates with Clinical Managers, Nurse Educators and point-of-care staff to identify knowledge gaps and support ongoing and just-in-time education for staff within clinical area(s).
- Manage the professional practice and educational needs of two departments at different sites
- Ensures educational activities are congruent with SJHH’s mission, goals, values, priorities, initiatives and resources.
- Ensures educational activities are evidence-informed, client-centered, and reflective of established clinical and education best practices
- Plan, coordinate, and deliver educational sessions for staff to assist them in meeting their key competencies
- Identify learning needs of individuals, units and departments to support clinical program goals and best practices
- Work collaboratively with others to identify learning needs, develop education/training programs to meet these needs, and evaluate the outcomes
- Coordinate nursing student placements and assist in the facilitation of a welcoming environment for all learners
- Promote and contribute to an environment that encourages research, its application, & implementation and evaluation of best practices
- Participate in the ongoing review and revision of patient care standards, policies and procedures and coordinate in-service programs aimed at meeting the continuing educational needs of staff
- Facilitate the development and ongoing maintenance of the department’s preceptorship/mentorship programs
- Support excellence in nursing professional practice through leadership practice, education, project management, and change agency
