Penticton and District Society for Community Living (PDSCL) is a non-profit organization committed to supporting people with diverse abilities in Penticton and the surrounding communities. We provide inclusive services for individuals with intellectual disabilities, seniors, low-income adults and families, and individuals facing homelessness.
Position Summary
PDSCL is currently hiring Graveyard Shelter Support Workers to join our dedicated team at Compass House, a 24/7 transitional housing and emergency shelter program.
We are currently hiring for the following positions:
- Temporary Part-Time: 32 hours per week
Monday to Friday
12:00 AM to 8:00 AM
- Casual On-Call: Flexible availability
Primarily 12:00 AM to 8:00 AM
Additional shifts may be available:
8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
12:00 PM to 8:00 PM
4:00 PM to 12:00 AM
Please note: Priority will be given to applicants who are comfortable and available to work overnight graveyard shifts for the casual-on-call applicants.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide on-site support and monitoring of shelter residents during overnight hours
- Foster a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for all clients
- Administer First Aid and CPR as needed and respond to emergencies
- Communicate effectively and professionally with clients and staff
- Supervise the facility, manage resident needs, and de-escalate conflicts using trauma-informed, client-centered approaches
- Provide advocacy, crisis intervention, education, and referrals
- Complete documentation and incident reports accurately and on time
Qualifications
- Diploma in a related Human or Social Services field preferred
- Minimum of one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practices, harm reduction, and non-violent crisis intervention is considered an asset
Required Certifications and Conditions of Employment
- Valid CPR and First Aid Certification
- Valid Food Safe Certificate
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector)
- Medical Clearance confirming fitness to work
Skills and Attributes
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Sound judgment, professionalism, and integrity
- Ability to maintain boundaries and work independently
- Physically and emotionally capable of working overnight shifts
- Team-oriented with the ability to manage stress effectively
