What You’ll Be Doing

Capital Markets provides integrated services and products aimed at serving investors as well as corporate and institutional clients globally. The Capital Markets business is a recognized leader in the industry specializing in investment banking advisory services, corporate lending and research.

Working closely with the Director, Centralized Governance & Controls (CGC), the Associate is accountable for the implementation, maintenance and adherence of governance and control initiatives, programs, and processes. The incumbent may also be required to participate in initiatives, projects and committees as assigned.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Project Management: Supporting the Line of Business (LOB) on CIBC-wide project implementation, including the development of policy / procedures, development of project plans, business requirements, executive presentations, and training materials. Expected to be leading and facilitating meetings with key stakeholders to work towards a project plan with key milestones, to subsequently be socialized with executives. Supporting with the management of records, using approved repositories and ensuring the businesses are in adherence with company policy.
  • Control Environment Assessment: Executing controls programs in an efficient and timely manner, including creating test plans, testing controls and communicating results and findings to the executive team. Being able to work closely with the business to identify critical operations, perform end-to-end walkthrough of transactions, testing for design and operating effectiveness of Capital Markets controls.
  • Reporting: Creating visually appealing, meaningful and concise management reporting to provide valuable insights to the Capital Markets executive team, by aggregating data through the use of available tools (i.e. Microsoft Excel, macros, Power BI, etc.).
  • Single Point of Contact: Supporting our LOBs to meet Enterprise requirements related to Anti-Bribery & Anti-Corruption assessments, Risk and Control Self-Assessments, Business Managed Technology, Third Party Governance, enhancing Operational Loss data, Key Risk Indicators and Privacy Incidents.
  • Ad-hoc Centralized Processes and Product Initiatives support: Supporting the greater Capital Markets business by helping to act as delegated support for functions such as tracking employee completion of CIBC’s Mandatory Training Program, facilitating the delivery of mandatory compliance trainings, tracking mandated risk leave and assisting with the Product Initiatives onboarding process facilitating an established approval process.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Management: Providing our LOBs with advice regarding the development of their policy and procedures, project plans, business requirements, executive presentation materials and training materials. Participation in ad-hoc business and CIBC-wide projects and committees, as required. Liaising on a regular basis with individuals in the various other CIBC LOBs and Capital Markets infrastructure partners (i.e. Finance, Operations, Technology, Risk Management, Compliance, Privacy, Audit) regarding CIBC’s governance and control initiatives and programs. Communicating with policy and program owners when providing data analysis and reports to support policy and program review.

Who You Are

  • You have an undergraduate degree in business or equivalent. CFA or CPA is an asset.

  • You can demonstrate 2-4 years of industry-related experience and have a strong understanding of Capital Markets related products and services. Ability to effectively communicate with business partners is essential to success in the role. Project management skills would be an asset.

  • You bring knowledge of operational, regulatory and reputational risks associated with Capital Markets’ LOBs and a comprehension of the policies, standards, processes and controls that need to be in place to mitigate these risks.

  • You love to learn. You’re passionate about growing your knowledge and applying it in order to bring efficiency to your work. Knowledge of audit and testing frameworks in the context of processes and controls is considered an asset.

  • You are technically savvy. High degree of computer literacy and familiarity with business tools (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint and SharePoint) is a must. Experience with process automation components (i.e. Excel Macros) is an asset.

  • You’re motivated by collective success. Team player with good communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as the ability to be able to think cross-organizationally and build consensus.
