Department of Transportation and Infrastructure is seeking a Drafting and Permit Technician to join the Highway Regional Operations Branch in various locations across Western and Eastern Manitoba. The Branch is responsible for delivering the province’s highway capital, maintenance, and stewardship programs. It ensures compliance with departmental standards and the principles of sustainable development. The team provides front-line management and support for ongoing stewardship functions, with a strong focus on preserving public safety and infrastructure integrity.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

  • Must be willing and able to travel throughout the province

  • Must have a valid Class 5 full stage Manitoba Driver's Licence

  • Must be physically capable of performing all required job duties, including lifting and carrying up to 25 kg, walking on rough terrain, sitting and standing for extended periods, climbing stairs and ladders, crouching, kneeling, bending, twisting, operating vehicles, and wearing personal protective equipment

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Completion of a Civil Technologist Diploma or Civil Technician Certificate or completion of Department Level 2 survey training course. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience with computer aided design and drafting software (MicroStation experience is an asset).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and courteously with internal and external contacts and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work with a high level of accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Desired:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook or an equivalent program(s) may be considered.
  • Experience with roadway construction inspection and/or preliminary/roadway construction survey.
  • Knowledge of basic survey practices.

Duties:

The Drafting and Permit Technician supports the Highway Regional Operations Branch by preparing permit applications, producing technical drawings, and providing field and administrative support. This role involves responding to public and internal inquiries, reviewing and processing permit applications, preparing CAD drawings for highway projects, and maintaining accurate records. The Technician also assists with field data collection and ensures compliance with departmental standards and legislation and provides occasional technical guidance and training to junior staff. A strong focus on safety, accuracy, and collaboration is essential in this position.
