Legal Counsel – Dispute Prevention, Resolution, and Litigation

Are you a litigator looking to join a legal team without stepping away from courtroom, arbitration, or mediation work? As a Legal Counsel within the Dispute Prevention, Resolution, and Litigation team at Pomerleau, you will represent the company and its subsidiaries in complex and stimulating legal matters before courts, and support major construction projects ranging from $1.5 million to over $1 billion.
What You Will Do
- Draft pleadings, conduct examinations, review expert reports, and prepare for and lead trials and hearings before judicial, administrative, or arbitration bodies;
- Advise and support management and project teams on various legal issues affecting the company’s operations;
- Draft or review legal notices and correspondence to protect the company’s rights in ongoing projects, including claims, dispute notices, mediation, or arbitration notices;
- Lead settlement discussions, including amicable settlement conferences and mediation sessions;
- Occasionally liaise with external counsel on matters such as health and safety, bankruptcy and insolvency, BSDQ, and other legal areas;
- Perform other related tasks involving legal issues affecting the company and its subsidiaries.
This role could be for you if you have
- A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) and membership with the Quebec Bar;
- 5 to 7 years of litigation experience;
- Strong knowledge of construction law;
- Initiative, autonomy, versatility, and a collaborative mindset;
- The ability to quickly grasp complex issues and work with stakeholders at all levels;
- A solution-oriented analytical mindset;
- Excellent negotiation and persuasion skills;
- Proficiency with relevant IT tools, including Microsoft Office and legal research databases;
- Willingness to travel occasionally as required.
