Salary: PT Support Payband 7 (Start $21.01 – Max $32.32)

About the Community Engagement Liaison Role:
Reporting to the Project Manager of Community Engagement at the Longo Centre for Entrepreneurship (Longo CfE), the Community Engagement Liaison supports the Longo CfE’s efforts to reach students, entrepreneurs, and industry partners.

The Community Engagement Liaison is responsible for supporting the Longo CfE team in organizing events that activate, engage, and build relationships with and between students, entrepreneurs, and the Humber Polytechnic community; providing essential support and services to Humber students in programs with Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) embedded in the curriculum; developing and nurturing industry partnerships that are integral to the delivery of WIL; collecting data and reporting on quarterly metrics to funders; participating in administrative, marketing and communications related tasks and meetings that support the offerings of the Longo CfE.

To ensure that students have high-quality experiences that build on their curriculum and prepare them for their chosen careers, the incumbent assists the Project Manager in preparing students for their placements through a range of activities including but not limited to coordinating the delivery of entrepreneurship events, entrepreneurial skills workshops, of work-preparation workshops, resume feedback, mock interviews, job search coaching, and advising. Through organizing one-on-one meetings with students, the incumbent supports the delivery of advice to students on methods and techniques to secure a placement and/or helps the student access other supports at Humber.

The incumbent will promote Humber Polytechnic’s programs and students to external stakeholders, work with employers to develop placement opportunities, review job postings, set up networking events, and refer students to prospective employers.

The incumbent will monitor metrics of all relationships established and students placed, assess success rates, and monitor gaps that need to be worked on to continuously provide the highest level of service to both students and industry partners. The incumbent must demonstrate a working knowledge of the Ontario Employment Standards Act and the Ontario Human Rights Code to support diverse student needs, perspectives and identities while balancing their work with external employers. They must also have a working knowledge of the range of support programs within Humber and the local community, including but not limited to financial aid, counseling, accessible learning services, and more.

Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, analysis, collaboration, communication, and networking skills are needed as the incumbent is responsible for establishing and/or maintaining quality WIL partnerships with the industry and community. These partnerships are aimed at creating unique learning experiences for students with reciprocal benefits for partners.

Education
The successful candidate will possess a four (4) year undergraduate degree in Business, Human Resources or Career Development.

Experience/Skills
A minimum of one (1) year of practical work-related experience in the field of education, business, or human resources.

  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, organizational, and planning skills. Able to communicate effectively with a diverse student population and at all levels in an employer organization
  • A goal/results-focused individual, with the ability to balance and handle competing priorities in a high-volume placement environment, and work with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to listen, empathize, problem solve, exercise good judgment, work with interruptions, and deal with conflicts.
  • High level of organizational skills, attention to detail and maintaining accurate records
  • Strong digital fluency skills and be able to work with various computer software (MS Office, Contact Management Systems, Blackboard and MyHumber), virtual meetings, events platforms, and social media.
  • Comfortable establishing and growing networks to promote programs, students, and events
