The Saskatchewan Police Commission (Saskatchewan Police College), is seeking a strong and effective communicator to assist in the development and facilitation of professional training utilizing adult learning principles for police officers and law enforcement personnel.

As a Research and Training Officer, you will:

· Function as part of a team to plan, manage and facilitate a wide range of courses to police officers and civilian police personnel that will develop their personal and professional knowledge, perspectives and skills consistent with the desired course training standards (CTS) within recruit training program (RTP) and In-service courses.

  • Deliver and facilitate learning in assigned police and law enforcement-related subject areas

  • Provide subject matter expertise to learners, trainers, judicial hearings, and police services

  • Design course training standards/plans and organize, coordinate, and evaluate police courses and training events

  • Research subject area, prepare lesson plans and other resource material, and design tests and examinations

In this position, you will be responsible for acting as a role model and supervising candidates undergoing training. You will also be responsible for reporting evaluations to the participant's law enforcement agencies from across the province. As well, you will be coordinating and organizing the delivery of training at several different training facilities and, on occasion, help facilitate classroom or scenario training.

The successful candidate will have experience in instructional design, delivery of course training standards, adult learning principles, problem-based learning and evidence-based policing.

Typically, the competencies required for this position would be obtained through graduation from a police academy in Canada, extensive experience in operational policing and supervision of police officers, supplemented with experience in training needs analysis, and the facilitation of training.

You will have the knowledge of:

  • Relevant law including the Criminal Code, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and Provincial legislation.
  • The Criminal Justice System
  • Police policy and protocol
  • Adult learning principles
  • Problem-based learning
  • Evidence-based policing

This is a permanent full-time position.
