Finance/Administration Assistant

The opportunity:

The candidate will assist with the ongoing operation of the Institute for Global Public Health (Institute) operating within the University of Manitoba, as well as the administration of new and ongoing global health projects being undertaken by the Institute. Projects are implemented largely in international locations, primarily in India, Nigeria, Pakistan and Kenya, with some Canadian based projects as well. The candidate will be required to work with university faculty, staff and students, both within the Institute, as well as other departments and units. Also, liaising with international partners will form an important part of this position. Working with the Institute’s finance and administration team, the candidate will be involved with the day-to-day activities of the Institute, as well as providing input into new procedures required to address ongoing changes and developments, within the Institute, as well as the University.

The qualifications and experience we’re looking for:

  • Completion of a formal training program in accounting or business administration from a recognized institution, or enrolment in advanced accounting program, is required
  • Minimum of four years working in an office environment, preferably in a research-based/university environment required.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Windows and Microsoft office applications.
  • Basic knowledge of general office routines required.
  • Must be comfortable working with minimum supervision with the ability to prioritize activities independently.
  • A good understanding of accounting principles required.
  • A satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
  • Experience with Concur/Epic/VIP platforms desirable.
  • Experience working with foreign partners is an asset.
  • Experience with auditing process desirable
  • Ability to coordinate workflow and identify processes which would benefit from improvement and recommend modifications.
